Woodforged in Arhor'ha | World Anvil

Woodforged

The Ursa Minor libraries cover the creation of a woodforged as a ritual. Wood from a Yggdrasilcyte is carefully sculpted into a vessel using vines, branches, sap/amber. The plant life itself is enriched with life and if one stopped there it would be a golem capable of taking direction and protecting an area. The 'core' of a woodforged is hardened sap that is left unrefined. A soul is introduced to it and the life of the world tree and this soul merge. If the ritual is successful, the core is placed into the vessel and a sentient creature is born. Introducing a soul isnt always successful. Someone has to be alive first and have a strong will that aligns with ideals of life and nature. (Alexa/Syn Side note: Pisces). Comparing it what you know about ancient texts of other warforged, the process has similar facts. You need a vessel, a core, and a soul. A vessel and a core provides a golem. The process is differerent. A metal or crystal warforged is heavily machined and enriched with magic in the metal and the process of contruction. The process itself is difficult, but the necessary tools and raw materials make it harder. In recent memory, Freeport was capable of producing them (over 100 years ago) due to Gig, but ambitious dwarves also create them in Duodecim. The occasional Crow house in Crystallis creates them, but its often experimental prototypes and its not feasible to mass produce them (e.g. 100 Targarius Soldiers, 5 Golems, or 1 Warforged; take your pick for the same cost). The core is the puzzle box. Where a woodforge has 'tenants' that align to life, a metal or crystal forge's tenants are more arcane. Scientific. The creator sets them, but has to set them both in balance to arcana laws and in a way a soul can acclimate to them. All metal and crystal warforged, as a result, have a killswitch referenced - not out of necessity but 'ethics', 'hubris', or 'fear'. The killswitch doesn't destroy the soul, it destroys the core. There are no records of metal/crystal warforged souls returning to non-forged bodies, however woodforged has a greatly different view on it and sees it as Reincarnation, so its feasible to reincarnate to a new vessel after. There is something inconsistent that remains unexplained. How people learned how to make them to begin with. The creation myth is that angels built them to fight against dragons and devils, but nothing beyond fictional novella supports that claim. The Freeport records run in contradiction to it as Gig is written as "The" Devil. Ursa Minor records do nothing to illuminate that mystery.
