Relic Hunters (Season 7): Curious and Curiouser

In the evening during one of the crews few relaxation breaks Roya is wondering around the sleeping quarters when she spots Cedric laying in a hammock intensity staring at a small journal. She, being a curious and woman she is, slowly walks below his hammock and with a burst of energy. "You know where I come from it's very rude to not share reading material!"   Cedric looks up from his unmarked leather bound tomb, speaking to Roya in a quiet voice. as he'd continue scribbling down notes in the margin. "It's not as much reading material as it is draft. Where I come from, knowledge is a commodity to be traded and exchanged between others." He'd show Roya the page he was currently working on, a sketch of various creatures together, some in the form almost like humans, except most had strange chimera-like features. Others would be monstrous-looking beings, combinations of animal and fiend. It'd be a short W.I.P synopsis page on the Demon Lords & Princes of The Abyss. Compared to his manner of speaking out loud, this was rather fluent and sophisticated, untouched by the fear Cedric normally has. "This is for my simplified encyclopedia, "Layman's Almanac to Fiends." is my idea for it, L.A.F, like laugh. That's just my idea."   Backing up so that she can see Cedric's face. She tilts her head slightly. Her pale violet eyes dance her head as she processes the information she was given. "So bear demon hunting is more of hobby then?" Pausing a moment she locks eyes with Cedric. "These are dangerous things to be seeking out"   "I guess you can say that. If I were to be honest with you, if I wasn't uh.... kicked out of anything, I would probably be in a room reading. But the uh, scholar has to be pushed out of his library to...uh....get more knowledge, yeah. New things to discover and all." "And yes, that's something I considered, but it's an inevitability of discovery."   Narrowing her eyes slightly "interesting" with a slight smile on her face Roya clumsily gets into the hammock next to Cedric so that she can be at eye level with him. Laying on her stomach and with her bare feet together and up in the air Roya hums to herself. She glances at Cedric with an expression that eagerly awaits a response.   Cedric awkwardly lays on his cot, looking back at Roya, looking back to his journal. "I mean, you can't really do some entirely new research without some field experimentation, even if you don't like it I guess." Cedric would sit there, paused for a while. "Do you uh, want anything?"   "not particularly" still humming in between talking Roya continues. " And what exactly are you experimenting on?" Leaning over she trys to get a glance at Cedric's current skechs .   The one he was working on previously of the Demon Lords & Princes would still be incomplete, but a completed sketch of various lesser Tanar'ri demons would be on the page left to it. "Fiends, Celestials, maybe the Undead, though it's not in my exact expertise like the others are. I guess it'd be getting more detailed descriptions of their behaviors and properties, and seeing how they interact with various elements of our plane and others. Seeing them as more extra-planar creatures and beings and less superstitious beliefs. The fiends, the celestials, even Asmodeus himself must be precise, following some sort of ruleset we just haven't found yet. A pattern."   "quite an ambitious task. Cedric. " With a playful cheer in her voice " and how does one such as yourself become involved in such an strange task? What happened to you Cedric?" Sitting upright and her feet hang over the side.Roya swings in the hammock.   "Well, when I was young, I was in my- or uh, the Von Tobren estate, and I ended up discovering an abandoned underkeep behind a bookshelf. A lot of novels and tombs there that even the library didn't carry. I was very interested in the uh, occult ones, the creatures above and below us. It's what I was just drawn to when I looked through the archives. Self-education led me to employment as a scribe in the Followers and you've, you know, heard the rest." "I guess you could call it my obsession, I think my family has a history of things like it."(edited)   "so what is the world you come from like Cedric Von Tobren? " Roya still swinging blinks blankly as she though deep in thought of other thinks.   "The world? I mean, I was raised in the upper-echelons of Crystallisis, so at the least it was comfortable when it came to protection and wealth. A lot less physical and more socially and politically driven I suppose from most of the other places I've seen. Father I didn't know, wandered when I was young, and Mother was tortured to death before I gained conscience. I was actually, you know, raised by servants, one of them was a half-orc too, though it was hard to tell at first." "But uh, Vinny referred to both my parents as "witches and warlocks", don't know if that's true or not to be honest."   In a causal tone " well I guess there is no moral guidance on what the followers of Oghma do with the information they aquire. What are you goals Cerdic. You have killed the Demon Bear and are accepted back into the Crystal City. What then?"   "Probably continue my research with the Followers, maybe see if my family will accept me again. Publish my encyclopedias. Maybe I'll get some uh, nice experience with field work and do more. Not that much honestly, I haven't thought too far ahead yet. Still have a lot of time to go."   "oh..... Well I was expecting something more...... Nevermind. I probably should get back to Hector..... His spell is about to run out of time..... Must be interesting to be a being that knows exactly how much time they have left.... " Looking Cedric sharply in the eyes. " I can pick up some of your chores if you'd like. Would that be a good enough currency to exchange to have access to your journals?????"   "Did you expect me to say control the fiends of the underworld or something?" He giggles a little, before stopping. "To know every second of your life is another second ticking towards your demise. It's the same for all of us, but we have the luxury of not knowing when that timer will end. They must look at this so differently, savoring the simple things no matter how small they be." He stops. "Went on a tangent, sorry. It's fine, you don't need to do my work, just ask when you want my work. Just don't change it, that's all I ask."   "very well. Well if you wouldn't mind leaving a journal in my Hammock before you head back to your shift I'd very much appreciate it."Stopping for a moment. "You said you have experience as a scribe? As do I. " Hopping out of the hammock she starts to walk off but turns back " I wonder what Oghma has planned for us then" Roya quickly pulls out a small silver Oghma symbol from around her neck and Winks before running off to check on Hector. Her excited footsteps can be heard though the ship.   Cedric watches Roya as she runs out of the room, shaking his head. "Never been questioned like that before." he mumbles to himself, dropping his journals onto the cot of Roya as he'd lay down, appreciating the time he had before shift of work came up.
