Enrieme City

Location   Enrieme City is the capital city of the The Grand Duchy of Enrieme and is located a few miles to the west of the Nifrar Delta.     First Impressions   Three things will strike a first-time visitor to Enrieme. The walls; tall, gleaming white, with a multitude of slim white towers capped by steep red-tiled conical roofs and with a limestone-lined broad seawater moat. The citadel in the same style as the walls but taller, slimmer, with a profusion of spired towers and balconies – the latter each with its own steep roof. The Great Temple of Tyr, with a lapis-lazuli blue dome and four dizzyingly tall towers one at each corner.   All the city’s defences are roofed over or can be covered with nets as protection against aerial assault. In the event of a true siege, there are sufficient nets to shield the whole city, although it takes several days to rig them.   On entering the city, it will be immediately clear that this is both a bustling commercial centre and the capital of a well-ordered state.     The Gates   Each city gate follows roughly the same design. The moat is crossed by a sturdy drawbridge, which leads to a four-towered square barbican. When the drawbridge is raised, an attacker would have to pass through the drawbridge, two sets of double oak doors, and three portcullises, all under threat from multiple murder holes above.   The gates are garrisoned in peacetime by around fifteen men apiece, although in wartime they could easily hold ten times that number. The normal toll for those without a pass is a silver piece per adult, wagon or horse, and a copper for each other item of livestock. Getting a pass can be done at any gatehouse for the payment of a gold piece or Enrieme Crown.     The Docks   Enrieme Docks are primarily outside the city, with a small part the commercial dock protected by the Docktower. Sidhiaran attacks have been known to take the form of assaults from the sea by water elementals. The architects of the city defences therefore considered it wisest to protect all sides of the city rather than have an exposed seafront, with a single well-protected wharf that could be used to bring in supplies and reinforcements in the event of a close siege.   The Naval Dock, known as the Great Naval Dockfort, is better protected – a huge drum-shaped fortification on an artificial island just offshore. It is reached from the Docktower on a wide bridge which is only present when simultaneously activated magically from both ends.     Notable Buildings & Locations   1.
