Welcome to Argilia, a world of constant change and untold adventure!
It is the year 825 of the Vortorrian Age (VA)
The Beginning
Legend says Argilia was made by the twenty children of the Aether Gods, powerful beings that chose to walk the realm alongside mortals and oversee their growth and development. But like most siblings, these twenty Gods were subject to petty jealousies. Eventually their in-fighting led to what was known as the Aether War - a cosmic conflict that, quite literally, shook the lands of Argilia to its core. This silly sibling squable was put to an end by redacted the one true God, Vortor, who descended upon Argilia 2000 years ago.
The Empire
The central continent of Argilia is home to the Vortorrian Empire, a coalition of nations unified by religion. The Empire has brought peace and prosperity to the central lands of Argilia. It is ruled by five individuals, The Council of Vortor, who oversee and dictate the laws and edicts of the Emperor, a man descended from Vortor himself. The capital of the Vortorrian Empire is Zerion City in Zerion.
The Church
The Church of Vortor was founded, by the grace and guidance of Vortor, the one true God, more than 800 years ago at the Meeting of Mulcahey.
Temples of Vortor have replaced many of the faenes of the Icosetheon (the Twenty). To the vexation of the Church, pagan traditions to the Old Gods persist in most places. These practices are nothing but harmless superstitions observed by the unlearned. The highest orders of paladins and priests ensure the education, compliance, and in extreme cases, enforcement, of Vortor's will.
The Arcane
Studying and mastering magic is a prestigious employment. Those of sufficient promise in the Arcane arts are granted admission to the Citadel Arcanum, the Church-sanctioned center for magical learning. Uncontrolled magic is dangerous and not to be trusted. Representatives of the Church and the Imperial army are known to settle these poisonous matters quickly to ensure the safety of the citizens.
The Elves
Elves are absent from the glories of the Vortorrian Empire. Some say 2000 years ago, they mysteriously left the mainland to return to their homelands, Enara, Fiinora, Merina, and Tesima. Others claim the Elves angered Vortor and he cast them out. Either way, elven blood, though rare, does live on throughout the central continent in Half-Elves. A true elf has not been seen in over 1000 years. Though myth maintains they were a people of high magic, ancient history, and advanced technology.
