Shadowblight
The blight is a harbinger of doom for societies. Its origins are mysterious, and its occurrences are rare, but whenever it does appear, all will suffer.
Scholars have dedicated themselves to studying the symptoms and have attempted to find any possible treatment, with varying luck.
Transmission & Vectors
Whenever the blight appears, it spreads differently, but always indiscriminately.
Causes
Monsters from the Shadowfell are often cited as the cause, while others claim they are the symptoms.
Symptoms
Like a parasite, the shadow slowly sucks the life from its host. Their faces become gaunt, their skin pale.
Their blood turns black and viscous, while preventing wounds from healing.
It seeps into their airways, causing them to cough up the tainted blood.
Treatment
No true cure has been found, but there are various means of slowing the spread and lessening the symptoms.
- Magical healing, through spells or potions, can be used to treat the symptoms and banish some of the built-up shadow.
- Bloodletting is occasionally used if specific appendages are more heavily affected, though its effectiveness is heavily debated.
- Purging the toxins through the ingestion of cleansing tonics like those based on the Bloodpurge.
