Niko of Whitebarrow in what is now Greyvale was purported to be the first true Prophet of the One Faith. A human, Niko grew up the son of a farrier and a weaver in a large extended family. He possessed a wisdom and understanding of the Earth that far surpassed what was to be expected of a youth of his origin and station. Soon, he was invited into the academy of noted Grey Wizard, Orthenic the Wise. Niko ended up teaching as much as he learned from the aged high elf's collection of teachers, scholars, musicians and students. By his nineteenth year, Niko was expelled from the school for his insistence on the pointlessness of the Great Cycle and the need to circumvent it. He pointed to the need for a new approach to life and how it should be lived.    He attracted many followers, especially those of human and half-elven ancestry. Soon after his expulsion, Niko found his fledgling fellowship and "rival academy" under rhetorical attack by the disciples of Orthenic the Wise, but physical attack by the less civilized academies and arcane schools in the area. Barely surviving the second attack in the dead of night, Niko and his remaining disciples fled the entirety of Greyvale westward into the steppelands.   He would be adopted into a semi-nomadic tribe of humans and half-elves, the Hawks of the Northwind and soon become their spiritual leader and eventually their worldly one as well.
