Session 41: The Vault Beckons
General Summary
The Fall of Scharflorigiagag
Through the scrying eye, I beheld the party enter the scorched ruins that the locals grimly called The Scary Zone. The reason became immediately clear. Scharflorigiagag — the Katpaskir predator — had made this place his lair, a pocket of shifting terrain stitched into space by his warping aura. As the ground twisted and fractured, the demon blinked in and out of vision, loosing waves of disintegration that tore into both Goq and Sunny with searing force. Yet it was Warby, Crown's wings glinting in volcanic light, who surged forward first — pinning the creature with surprising ferocity. The others followed in tight formation, whittling him down as he twisted and snapped like a serpent of dark glass. One of his wight allies tried to rally in his place, but the party’s coordination proved too much. When the battle ended, Scharflorigiagag's form dissolved into black mist, his presence erased from the Forge. The potters and artisans of the surrounding hamlets would sleep easier tonight — and their work, expressions of soul and purpose, could continue in peace.Cleansing the Final Crucible
The party turned west, their gaze fixed on the last corrupted Crucible — the Shadowbound Crucible, whose location had long been hidden beneath veils of unlight. What they found was a nightmare given form: three glowing runes pulsed across the Crucible's face, seared into basalt and wrapped in chains woven of pure shadow. Above it floated a halo — or crown — of more chains, suspended against the sky like a threat unspoken. Before they could formulate a plan, the Crucible struck. There were no guards, no summoned minions. The Crucible itself was the enemy — an entity of divine flame twisted into malice. It lashed out with tendrils of void-stuff, pierced their thoughts with despair, and cracked the crust of the world with lava geysers in an effort to unmake their resolve. But the party adapted. Some fought with sword and spell, others turned inward — pleading to their gods, shaping arcane geometry to weaken the runes. One by one, the bindings shattered. Finally, Warby struck the crown with a blinding blast — and silence fell. Then, light. Chains of Jarak’s making, radiant and eternal, surged down from the heavens, binding the Crucible anew. The corruption was purged. The second-to-last echo of Melkorion’s plan had been silenced. How far he had come, or how close he was to success, we could not know. But he had been delayed.Toward the Vault of Broken Chains
With no time to waste, the party set their sights on the Cindershroud — the cursed ash wastes where the Vault of Broken Chains lay hidden. But first, they would explore the edges of the Anvilspires, and make a final stop at Velthurak. Supplies, knowledge, and perhaps a moment of peace — all would be needed before the storm to come. I end this entry with a whisper of concern. The Crucibles burn bright again, but I feel the Shadowstone pulsing ever louder in the dark. Something stirs beneath the ash. — Sera
