Session 22: The Prime Scholar and Friends
General Summary
A Noble Betrayal
Having survived the ambush in the market square, we turned our attention to our captives—the noblewoman and merchant who had set us up. It didn’t take long to piece together the threads of their treachery. The noblewoman’s house owed fealty to the nobleman who had previously tried to lure us outside the city. Clearly, they were all pawns of the Darkscale Syndicate, hired to terminate us before we could uncover more of their machinations. The merchant, however, was nothing more than a coward paid off to assist. Rather than ending the noblewoman’s schemes with bloodshed, we convinced her to shift her allegiance to us, appealing to her self-preservation. Leaving her to deal with the consequences of her failures, we returned to Jim to check on the status of the Lightning Skiff. The Chainbreaker Takes Flight
Jim, true to his craft, presented us with a masterpiece—the Chainbreaker. This skiff was a marvel of engineering, its mag-ducts allowing for advanced flight and hovering. Perfect for our needs, it was an impressive culmination of our resources and time. Naming it "The Chainbreaker" felt fitting, as it symbolized both our defiance of fate and our fight against the Syndicate. After taking some time to make additional purchases and train, we made our way to the Grand Arcanum to meet the Prime Scholar herself.Wisdom from the Prime Scholar
Prime Scholar Galiene welcomed us with a cordial demeanor. Though she carried the air of someone infinitely wiser than anyone in the room, she managed to share her insights in a way we could understand. She spoke of the Shadowstones and hinted that our search for the next stone would bring us to the Eldertree Forest. According to her, a powerful leshy near Eastwind could guide us further if the rumors about the forest’s magic were true. Galiene also unveiled a deeper truth about the All-God. It wasn’t a simple entity; part of it existed within each of Arendor’s gods, binding them all in some ancient, unfathomable way. Only the combined might of the pantheon could keep the All-God bound, and she believed that even a sealed Narthos might be sufficient to hold it in check. This revelation made our mission even more urgent. With these grave truths in mind, we departed for Eastwind, charting a path through the Silvershade Range to save time.A Vision of Fire
The Chainbreaker soared high over the Windless Hills when disaster struck. The skiff’s mag-ducts became misaligned, and the core’s stability faltered. As we scrambled to make repairs, Warby froze in place, his eyes wide with something none of us could see. Afterward, he described it—a vision of Thallindor ablaze, a mirrored dimension consumed by fire and ash. As suddenly as the vision came, it vanished. But something strange occurred during this moment—the Chrono Compass spun violently before pointing northwest, toward Brakkar Hold. Though ominous, we resolved to press onward into the Silvershades, knowing we couldn’t afford more delays. The Thousand-Year Storm
As we climbed higher into the Silvershade Range, we were enveloped by a storm unlike anything we had ever seen. Its gale-force winds and lightning strikes had been raging for over a thousand years, marking the mountain range as untamed and dangerous. It was then that the source of the storm revealed itself—a sky dragon of legend. Vethisthar, the Tempest's Warden, descended upon us, his presence exuding power and authority. He accused us of trespassing and declared we sought the Sky Glyph, an artifact of Zephyros. Strangely, we accepted this challenge without hesitation, perhaps out of pride or perhaps out of necessity. The Battle for the Sky Glyph
Fighting a sky dragon in the middle of the sky proved to be one of the greatest trials we had ever faced. Vethisthar’s lightning breath tore through the skies, his divine decrees empowered by Zephyros battering us relentlessly. It felt as though the storm itself was an extension of his will. But one among us stood untouched—Goq. Somehow, he evaded the dragon’s divine decrees entirely, as if protected by Zephyros himself. Vethisthar took note of this, realizing that Goq wasn’t merely another adventurer—he was a champion of Zephyros, chosen for this moment. With a booming laugh, the dragon halted the battle and presented Goq with the Sky Glyph, declaring his thousand-year vigil complete. As the artifact passed to Goq, the storm above the Silvershade Range finally ceased, leaving the skies clear for the first time in a millennium. Vethisthar bid us farewell, flying toward a new horizon, his purpose fulfilled.Arrival in Eastwind
The journey through the Silvershades ended as the city of Eastwind came into view. With its curved roofs, vibrant rice fields, and serene atmosphere, it was unlike any place we had visited before. We brought the Chainbreaker to rest just outside the city walls and made our way inside. It was here, amidst the bustling streets of Eastwind, that Goq heard a familiar voice call out to him. Turning, he saw a grizzled dwarf with a broad smile—Grimol Kravok, Goq’s old mentor. Sera
