Quinquay

Quinquay is a sprawling industrial city nestled within the mountainous embrace of Cragmoor, known for its expansive forges, towering smokestacks, and bustling production lines. Government

Quinquay is ruled by the Council of Cinders, an oligarchic group of industrial magnates who manage the city's vast forges and control most aspects of its economy and social order through authoritarian governance.

Defences

Quinquay is protected by massive stone walls reinforced with steel, patrolled constantly by the Ashsentinels, elite guards in blackened armor loyal to the Council of Cinders. Defensive siege engines and clockwork sentries are stationed at key points.

Industry & Trade

Quinquay thrives primarily on metalworking and industrial mass production, supplying weapons, armor, tools, and mechanical contraptions across Thallindor. It is Cragmoor’s largest exporter of crafted metal goods, rivaling even the capital Bouldercrest.

Infrastructure

Extensive stone roads and rail systems facilitate the rapid transport of raw materials and finished goods throughout the city. Massive ironworks and assembly lines dominate the infrastructure, equipped with advanced mechanical contraptions and steam-powered machinery.

Districts

Ashen Heights: Home of the wealthy forge magnates and their opulent villas.   The Iron Veins: The main industrial heartland filled with factories and assembly forges.   Emberveil Quarter: Secretive district housing hidden smithies and clandestine artisan workshops.   Slagtown: The working-class district, characterized by crowded housing and bustling markets.

Guilds and Factions

Council of Cinders: Dominant oligarchy controlling industry and governance.   Emberveil Crafters: Underground guild advocating true craftsmanship and opposing mass industrialization.   Ironbound Union: Laborers and workers seeking fair treatment and wages, frequently suppressed by authorities.

History

Quinquay was initially founded as a modest mining town before rapidly industrializing during Cragmoor's economic boom. Its mass production forges flourished, making it crucial during the War of Shadows when weaponry from its foundries turned the tide against invading darkness. However, oppressive working conditions led to unrest and the eventual establishment of authoritarian rule by the Council of Cinders to maintain control.

Architecture

Architecture in Quinquay is utilitarian and robust, with buildings constructed from heavy stone and reinforced metal. Industrial aesthetics dominate, though the wealthier districts feature opulent villas blending traditional dwarven craftsmanship with mechanical elegance.

Geography

Quinquay lies within a rugged valley surrounded by steep mountains and cliffs, adjacent to rich mineral deposits. Its terrain is rugged, with multiple underground catacombs and mining tunnels sprawling beneath the city.

Climate

The city experiences a temperate mountain climate, with cold winters and mild summers. Persistent industrial pollution results in frequent smog and reduced sunlight.
