Darkwatch edges closer and closer to a civil war as the followers of the Kyn emperor lose ground in skirmishes with Watcher warriors. The unstable emperor himself begins to fail physically, his grip on the kingdom slowly fracturing as the Watchers grow more bold- and more violent. One young Watcher leader determines to strike at the Kyn capital itself, seeking vengeance on the emperor for the deaths of her family in the failed Downfall rebellion of ten years before. Her childhood friend the healer speaks freely of unity between Watchers and Kyn, drawing the ire of his leaders. The emperor's son looks for a way to bring a lasting peace between their two peoples as he struggles under the burden of responsibility. Their choices throw the three together, but change within and without will not come easily.
And the war is not the only danger. Down below, where the corrupted Darksun sheds its dim light on people and monsters alike, shadows of the past are stirring. Shadows that the prince wishes to avoid at all costs, lest he suffer the same fate as his father and the rest of his line before him. Shadows that call to the warrior of a past that she could reclaim. Shadows that are observed by a young light mage who wishes to be part of a grander story, and whose path will soon join with that of the others.
