The Morrigan (mor-uh-gun, mor-RIG-un)

The Morrigan is a triple aspect goddess – her triune showing a young farm woman with child in her late teens, a fierce shieldmaiden in her late 30s, as well as a bent and wizened witch in her 80s - known as The Matron, The Warrior and The Crone, respectively. The Morrigan’s dogma varies based on her aspects. The Matron cares for those who watch over nature, blessing harvests and protecting crops while also showing luck and fortune to orphaned children or grieving mothers. The Warrior shows favor to those who rush into battle with furious abandon, occasionally offering a blessing upon them and protecting them from all but the most grievous of wounds. She is sometimes reported as overlooking great battles in the form of a crow that swoops down to pick at the carrion. The Crone is associated with swindlers and dark fey creatures and she can often be heard cackling in shadowy forests, tricking lost wanderers off the path and into harm's way. It is a widely held belief that the Morrigan and Corellon at one time were partners but the Morrigan’s decision to abstain from battling The Profane Gods caused them to split. The Morrigan’s faith in Ardyn is largest within The Waelan Isles where her people primarily serve her aspect of The Warrior.   Realm: The Morrigan is not known to reside in any permanent realm, instead choosing to wander the beautiful forests of the Feywild and indulging her trickster side among the unseelie fey. Sometimes, she roams the rugged, eternal battlefields of Ysgard watching over the noble spirits clash in unending honorable combat.   Depiction: Primitive clay representations can be found in various ommunities of her followers, showing the Morrigan's singular triune form as a slender dark haired elven woman or as a large crow with wings outspread. This aspect differs from her split aspects of the Warrior, the Matron and Crone.

Tenets of Faith

  • Foster the fertility of the land and its inhabitants. The preservation of the natural cycle is paramount.
  • In battle there is beauty. Only when we are tested do we discover who we truly are, so revel in the strength of your struggles.
  • Laws were made to be broken. Follow your passions even if society tells you it's wrong.

Holidays

The Morrigan has no official holy day but is often celebrated as the patron of Samhain, a spirited festival taking place on the last day of the 8th month. Many high and haughty individuals use this festival as an excuse to be sly and mischievous; some younger folk use costumes and illusions to prank their peers.
