Melora (muh-lor-uh, mel-or-uh)

the Wildmother

The realm of the Wildmother extends to wherever the seas shift and the land grows over. Keeper of the wilderness, she represents the wild creatures of nature, the rush of the angry rapids, and the heat-harried stillness of the desert. Elves take up her worship, as do hunters of natural lands, accepting her guidance to exist harmoniously within savage lands. Those seeking safe passage across dangerous waters give prayers to her to guide them. The druids of Melora and clerics of her lover, Selûne, work together to preserve the balance of nature and civilization. It is said that the two goddesses grow furious when this balance is upset, and this fury manifests in Ardyn as devastating natural disasters. Followers of the Raven Queen also show respect to the Wild Mother as the caretaker of what remains when the Matron of Death’s work is done.   Realm: Eschewing a permanent realm, Melora prefers to wander the planes to oversee natural life. She is often found among the unearthly beauty of Arvandor’s infinite expanse of deep woods, hunting unnatural things that corrupt the wilds.   Depiction: Seen immortalized through wooden reliefs and carved idols in hidden, overgrown groves and rural shrines, Melora often is depicted as a beautiful woman of green skin nearly swallowed by a wild, tangled wreath of hair, leaves, and vines that dwarf her lithe form.

Holidays

Though Corellon is the god of spring, Melora’s holy day is Wild’s Grandeur, and is celebrated on the vernal equinox, usually the twentieth day of the third month.    The people in the southern wilds of Gwessen celebrate the Wildmother's strength by journeying to a place of great natural beauty. This could be the top of a mountainous waterfall, the center of a desert, or even an old and peaceful city park. Others will travel from all around the globe will make a pilgrimage to the center of the continent to see the towering Tree of Gwessen, thought to be the first tree that Melora planted on Ardyn.   The people of Black Sand Bay on The Exalted Expanse set aside this day to sail for no reason other than the pleasure of observing the natural beauty of their surroundings. Those who still partake in elements of the indigenous culture take this day to appreciate the fruits and foods granted by the sea, leaving offerings of delicacies and small handmade crafts at temporary altars of twisted roots and grasses. The people of Aon rarely celebrates Wild's Grandeur, but the few who do will plant trees in observance of the holiday or spend time among the Gardens of the Wildmother.
