Lathander (luh-THAN-der)

the Dawnfather

Lathander stands lord over sun and summer, his vigil encircling the ages as the keeper of time. Lord of agriculture and harbinger of the harvest, his followers commonly include farmers and most common folk, his priests welcome in lands all over. Supporter of the needy and destroyer of evil, the Dawnfather is often the patron to Paladins and Rangers who follow a similar creed. Lathander is also known for his defeat of Tharizdun, and is revered by those who hunt aberrations.   Realm: Lathander is often found within the Fortress of the Sun, a shining, golden citadel that brings vibrant life to the limitless orchards of the Blessed Fields of Elysium.   Depiction: Tapestries of old match early text describing Lathander as a glowing figure in blue and gold armor, his head a beacon of sunlight and fire so bright that a face could rarely be seen within. Many statues in holy places treat the head as a brazier, lit with each dawn and extinguished with the dusk.

  • Deliver the light of Lathander where darkness dwells, with kindness, compassion, and mercy.

Holidays

Lathander's holy day takes place on the fifteenth day of the seventh month. Cities all across Ardyn spend the day celebrating with feasting, gift-giving and a festival of lights.   While other parts of the Exalted Expanse feast on the holiday itself, the Celestan Empire uses a week-long festival in Aon as an opportunity to enlist more soldiers in its army. The military sponsors great tournaments, holds large feasts, hands out toy soldiers and other propaganda, encouraging people to enlist and help fight against the evil that threatens the empire.
