Caverns of Quasqueton

In search of the unknown...

As seen in | |

Rogahn the Fearless and Zelligar the Unknown are legendary names.

Most Mystarians interviewed know of their reputation. Although, most spoken too claim the tale is takes place long before they were born.

The elders and the sages speak both names with respect, even awe, in a distant admiration for the memories of the two legendary figures

Mystarans have heard parts of the story before, but never enough to know all of it, or even what is true and what is only legend or speculation.

Rogahn the Fearless earned his name as a great warrior, and his reputation spread far and wide across the land.

Zelligar the Unknown equally renowned earned his respected status and power as a foremost practitioner of the mystical arts of magic and sorcery.

No one knows what occurrences or coincidence brought these two men together. but tales tell of their meeting and forming a strong bond of friendship, a union that would last for the ages.

As this occurred, legend has it, the two men virtually disappeared from the view of civilization. Stories occasionally surfaced about a rumoured hideaway being built deep in the wilderness, far from the nearest settlement, away from travelled routes, and high upon a craggy hill-but no one seemed to know any more than that, or where this supposed hideaway really was located, if indeed it was. No one knows for sure, but some say their motive was to pursue the common goals of personal greed and some kind of vogue (or chaotic) evil. In any case, they jointly led a hermit life with but a few occasional forays into the outside world to add to their own reputations.

Many years passed, until one day a great barbarian invasion came from the lands to the north. threatening to engulf the entire land with the savage excesses of the unchecked alien horde. Just when things seemed the darkest. Rogahn the Fearless and Zelligar the Unknown and their unexpected yet most welcome reappearance. Joining their powerful forces, they and their band of loyal henchmen met the barbarian army in a great battle at a narrow pass in the hills and decisively turned back the invasion.

Mistress Melissa describes how Rogahn slew a horde of barbarians single-handedly and Zelligar's powerful magic put their army to fight. It was a great victory, and a grateful populace rewarded the pair and their consorts with considerable treasure. After that, the two heroes returned to their mystical hideaway, and rumour has it that the spoils of victory were spent to further its construction. although some of it may yet be hidden somewhere. The most exciting portions of the legend are the most recent. Some years ago, perhaps in the decade before we connected to Mystara.

Rogahn and Zelligar apparently decided upon a joint foray into the lands of the hated barbarians. Taking most of their henchmen and associates along with them in a great armed band, the two personages, it seems, disappeared into the forbidding alien lands to the north on a great adventure which some say may have been asked by the very gods themselves.

Once we broke through to Mystara, the Explorer's Guild was approached by Mistress Melissa, Rogahn the Fearless 's lover. She was there during the final battle before becoming displaced.

Sadly, she can confirm indeed, the wizard and her love fell in battle. But, wishing to help the Explorer's Guild, she donated the location of the stronghold Rogahn the Fearless and Zelligar the Unknown built, and said they chose it's location for the stratigic location in the known world.

Once Securing Quasqueton is completed, it shall become the new base of operations for the Explorer's Guild

Local Lore:

Purpose / Function

The original purpose of this structure was meant to be a stronghold for Rogan and Zalligar. They pooled their resources together and created this out of the craggy rockface.

Based on their recoverd journals, Zelligar had skryed this location based on some high magical resonance. We believe it to be the Heart of Quasqueton found in The Cavern of the Mystical Stone

Using the power from the crystal, he was able to amplify his magic and create an impressive structure.

Now that it's been reclaimed by the Explorer's Guild and Mistress Melissa has been reinstated, Quasqueton is going to be the secret base of the Explorer's Guild while they explore Mystara and build trade connections.

From here, the Explorer's Guild will begin expansion into the Known World and search for knowlege and assetts that will help everyone get home...

Design

Built from the craggy stone peaks deep within mountains that border the barbarian lands, Quasqueton stands as a hidden watchtower against the hoards of the north. Inside the Upper Levelss are ten by ten square stone corridors with winding passages and construction tricks that are sure to get anyone foolhardy enough to venture forth without a map to certain doom...   The second level is unfinished, and is a maze of caverns filled with unspeakable creatures and something of untold power.

Entries

The front entrance of the structure is hidden, the location was provided by Mistress Melissa. It's a cave hewn into the granite cliffside. It took an hour for the first expedition to find it's location.

Sensory & Appearance

Dense groves of treas cover the mountainside, taking root in the rock and dirt excivated and poured down the sides of the mountain over the decades of it's construction.

    Hazards & Traps

There are wandering monsters, pit traps, and unknown inhabitants lurking in the depths

    Special Properties

Zelligar the Unknown has ensured the fortress is seeped in magics, so one should be wary upon entering.

    Alterations

Current renovations are taking place. The goal is to establish as mall shop to support the Explorer out in the field, and create a base of operations to participate in the larger political climate.

We are currently consolidating the resources inside and are going to repair and use things as best as possible.

Mistress Melissa has taken residence in the Mistress' Room and will be available as an advior.

The connecting Portal has been moved into the Worship Area, though Zelligar's magic prevents the removal or destruction of the Idol inside... much to the suprise of guests.

    Architecture

The notes recovered talked about plans for expanding the structure to a third level, as well as a way to connect to the tower itself.

These may be used when we have a stronger dwarven mining force that will finish the work that was started 30 years ago, but the dwaven surveyers have explained the time and resources it will take, so expnation will be slow, but possible.

Currently, the entire Upper Levels consist of ten foot by ten food corridors that only go in straight lines. There are very few curved passages.

There is absolutly no light inside. Torchlight is dim due to the black walls of the structure. It was reported by some explorers of feeling clastrophobic, and the walls would suck light into them like a sponge.

One of the first construction overhauls is to get some proper lighting installed.

    History

Quasqueton was created by Rogan and Zalligar.

    Tourism

Many features will draw people here. Some of the favorates are the Magic Mouth, the Room of Pools, and others!
