Ruhan Capall

Third husband to Princess Bialle the Bloody Lady

Lord Ruhan Capall

Once a promising scion of the Capall line, Ruhan is regarded today as an amusing cautionary tale.   Lord Ruhan inherited the Capall estates in his sixteenth year, in 918 RA. Not even a moon passed before Princess Bialle Beth, the Bloody Lady, returned to Revelback and sought Lord Ruhan as a husband. Princess Bialle was twice widowed, with three children from her previous marriage, and she was entirely upfront in her desire to gain status from Lord Ruhan. Moreover, she was newly twenty-seven years old, more than a decade his senior. Yet she was famously beautiful, and her admiration for him seemed genuine. They were soon married, bearing a single child, Helessa Capall, who would later be known as High Helessa, the Queen of Love. Princess Bialle would suffer several miscarriages after this, and though they never had a damning effect on her health, she and Ruhan would never have another child.   Lord Ruhan doted on his daughter, yet he was equally kind to Princess Bialle's other children. He is supposedly responsible for knighting Beran Aerrin at fifteen, who then rode off to fought in the Stock Wars. Beseda, Bialle's oldest child, was kind to all, and her second Vera was by turns timid and pouty, yet Ruhan found ways to encourage and them both, doing his utmost to spend near as much time with them as with his own child.   Thus was it a horror to all when Lord Ruhan was discovered abed with Lady Beseda, who had just entered majority. Beseda was quickly sent to Dubraigh, where she married a Luutar. Vera was send to Berleigh and betrothed to a Barkside. Lord Ruhan was brought before Lord Barthos Beth, Bialle's father, and offered a choice. He could give up the tongue with which he seduced Lady Beseda, or he could surrender the manhood with which he defiled her. Rather than choose, Lord Ruhan babbled excuses, insisting it had been Beseda that seduced him. He had evidently forgotten he was speaking to the young lady's grandfather. When this failed to impress Lord Barthos, Ruhan insisted his own wife Bialle had ensorcelled him somehow. Unsurprisingly, this also failed to awaken Lord Barthos' sympathies.   In the end, Lord Barthos had Ruhan's tongue removed for slandering his own wife. After that, he had Ruhan gelded for dishonoring his daughter by law. The gelding was evidently poorly done, as Lord Ruhan developed an infection, dying of it shortly thereafter. Sir Beran, who famously abandoned his post and rode south to kill Lord Ruhan in a Monosi duel, arrived too late. He dismounted, spat upon Lord Ruhan's grave, then hopped back upon his horse and rode back to the battlefront.
