Matarakati
One of the three ethnic groups of the city-state of Maristitium, the Matarakati are said to be descended from a group of Matkan slaves that either escaped or took over their keepers' vessel, sometime after the fall of the Mornal Empire. Most legends say they came to Maristitium at a time of great famine, and the stores of their ships helped relieve the city's natives. Far likelier, others say, the Matarakati had treasures upon their won ships and traded those for a home.
Though they live in the city, the Matarakati have mostly kept themselves separate from the other peoples. Most of the Matarakati live in the same neighborhood, where they keep the traditions and faith of their ancestors. Few will ever marry outside their people, and those that do are considered to no longer be Matarakati.
