Inish Aiva Character in Ardre | World Anvil

Inish Aiva

Inish Aiva was a Yenai fisher who lived by the sea in ancient times. One day, Vequa's Leviathan swam too close to land and caused a great wave that slew Inish Aiva's family. The fisher swore revenge and ran to the great plains where the Life Tree stood. He began to fell the Life Tree, to form a bow of great power with which to slay the Leviathan. The midge mice that lived in the tree begged Inish Aiva not to destroy their home, but the fisher ignored them. As the tree fell, it crushed a nearby village and slew many of its people, but Inish Aiva did not care. The fisher carved the greatest bow and one perfect arrow, then returned to the shores and waited for the Leviathan to draw near land again.   Inish Aiva was an old man when the great beast at last returned, but the fisher knew his bow, and the arrow had great power in it. He knew it would find its mark. A single shot was all it took to fell the Leviathan. "Thus am I avenged," said Inish Aiva.   But, as before, the Leviathan had come near the shore in order to hunt the great krakens that roiled in the seas and feasted upon the mortals that came too close. One such devil snapped out its great arm and seized Inish Aiva, drawing him down into the Undersea. There, he is forced to hunt the sea devils forever with a bow of thorns and arrows of flame, his rod and line forever forgotten, his family forever gone.
