Chuerebese

Sometimes called the Ghost Folk, the Chuerebese are an ancient people that were conquered by the Daridan Empire. They were supposedly long gone by the time the Orckid Empire came and defeated the Daridans, so nothing is truly known of them, yet in many ways their legacy endures more strongly than the Daridans. For many centuries, horses bred in "the Chuerebese fashion" were considered superior to all others. The nation of Viis Zoroth rests upon the Chuereb Promontory, the region itself is still called Chuereb, and certain styles of pottery and gem cutting are said to be Chuerebese.   Some legends say the Chuerebese came from across the sea, most likely from the Isle of Belth. There are even some myths claiming they originated under the sea, and that their goddess, the Pale Maid, summoned them up to the surface to share their bounty with the world. In most of these myths, the Daridans are depicted as cruel monsters or even savages who slaughtered the Chuerebese and stole their gifts. The most famous of these tales is that of Queen Ishem, who offered to wed an unnamed Daridan prince "to unite the Cliffs with the Waves." The prince agreed, but on their wedding night he strangles the queen on their marriage bed, and the following morning claims dominion of all the Chuerebese lands.   A lesser known but perhaps more interesting legend speaks of two great towers, the Tower of Jin and the Tower of Yath, from which the Pale Maid wars with the Gilty Lord. The Gilty Lord draws fires from the sky that wipes out most of the Pale Maid's soldiers, but she summons great waves that destroy both towers. In the end they destroy each other, but their people (or what remain of them) are free to live their lives. Many have drawn connections between Yathur Point and the Tower of Yath. Though a low-lying wetland today, Yathur Point may have once been every bit as elevated as Chuereb Promontory, on the other side of the Bay of Spells. Perhaps some great wave or flood tore down the area, producing the Fodellia Marshes and this myth.
