Ajmanite

Ajman was considered the first of the Three Great Empires conquered during the Orckid Conquest (the latter two being the Daridan Empire and the Brevessars of what is now Vaina).   The Ajmanites were the first great civilization taken by the Orckids, with true palaces and walls and supposedly mounted warriors. The Empire had grown so confident in their power that, it is said, they sent their forward forces to make battle themselves, as their virtuosos and governors and archons settled the lands they had already taken. These forward forces were utterly destroyed by Ajman. When Orckid's virtuosos finally arrived, they found a fortified city and armies that far outnumbered and outmatched their own. Ultimately, of course, this would not matter. They were still Viisianari, and none could counter their magics.   As with most of the conquered, the Ajmanites were allowed to retain most of their culture, their names, and their way of life. They intermarried with Orckid settlers, and in time any differences they may have had were forgotten. Notably, all religious artifacts of the Ajmanites existed solely in their palaces, and these would eventually be replaced with statues of the Eight Winds. As such, very little is known of ancient Ajmanite beliefs. Their own statues supposedly depicted warriors or former kings.   It is widely believed that the Ajmanites greatly resembled the Viisianari: tall, slender, earthen-skinned, and supernally beautiful. Many tales say they lacked the gold and silver hair of their conquerors, but their great similarities allowed the conquered people to blend harmoniously with the new empire. Indeed, even some Orckid archons are said to have taken Ajmanite consorts.   Nowadays, the Ajmanites are essentially gone. The citizens of the city of Ajman are occasionally called by the name, but more often they are called Ajmani. As with most of Orckid's conquests, intermarriage slowly eliminated whatever traits the ancient Ajmanites might have held distinct from their conquerors.
