Other Currencies
Though the coinage of the Empire is broadly used outside of its borders, there are still many major currencies that can end up being found in the Empire, especially in border regions and trade hubs. There are additionally some currencies that act as scrip, given out by civil organizations to be used for specific purposes. Some of these do carry significant value, whether they are coins made of metals or simpler tokens without inherent value.
The ancient Epiran coins inspired much of the currency of the Empire and many of their unique Staters can still be found in both old treasure hordes and the great vaults of rich families and merchant houses. Other Imperial peoples with a once major currency include the Flamebeard dwarves and the hill tribes of the Cantiberians. Unsurprisingly the regions these societies occupy are home to rich deposits of metals, spurring their independent development of valuable currencies.
Some of these groups have retained vestiges of their racial currency and use them either unofficially or ceremonially. The internal Flamebeard clan finances and economies are based entirely off their native coinage, albeit with major changes since their conquering and integration. Nevertheless most of the other currencies of Imperial subjects have been abandoned and their coins melted down and restruck into Imperial issues.
