Yben Fortress

Yben Fortress is an ancient settlement. It was first established many eons ago, when the Aswarian Empire and Aryithian Empire were at odds with each other. The king of the Aswarian Empire was paranoid that the Arythians were planning to attack. At the time, there was a pass through The Anvil Mountains  called the Yben Pass. So a fortified settlement was built to monitor comings and goings. And to sound the alarm should the Arythians attack. After one particularly bad storm, the pass collapsed and became impassable. Nowadays the inhabitants are less military and more civilian. They have a charmed and safe life with plenty of tea and cakes. There is an annual cooking competition which has become renowned and chefs come from all over to compete.

History

Established on the spot where the Military of the Aswarian Empire camped to guard against surprise attacks through the Yben Pass. The Fortress was initially built purely for military housing and defense. After the pass closed, the Militia grew smaller as troops were called elsewhere. As the Empire realised the Arythian's weren't going to get through the Pass again, they gave up all semblance of a military base and civiilans claimed the abandoned spaces. Over time, merchants set up permanent shops and the barracks was turned into an Inn. Nowadays there is a small military presence but it is mostly a regular town.
