Adventure April 2023 One Shot Bank Job

The Manager of the The First Bank of Bymere has requested assistance with a sensitive issue and requires the utmost discretion. The First Bank of Bymere is nearing the end of its trial period when they will evaluate the success of the experiment to see if it should continue or not. Unfortunately, during the trial, the Manager has recently discovered that some of the gold stored in the vaults has gone missing. They are besides themselves with worry as they have a lot hanging on the venture and are concerned that if word gets out there will be a rush as people clamour to get their money back.   -Find the culprit -Pin it on someone -Replace the gold -Set a trap -Find hidden burrows -Gold webs from spiders -Same issues elsewhere, people had this issue, that's why gold is being stored at the bank? -Koura? (trained or wild?)   Clues: Only gold is missing. Other valuable items remain. No entry/exit points. Only opened when deposit is made. Had golden wheel spider issues but the golden web was usually in the same vault/space and could be collected and weighed/melted down/minted if needed. Behind stacks or piles of gold, sometimes holes, gold spilling down the tunnel. Miners complain work at gold mines is fruitless

A year ago the city of Bymere was experiencing a large number of mysterious thefts. Citizens were having items pilfered from their homes while they slept. Authorities were finding very little evidence left behind. Many theories were floated but no culprit was caught. Eventually a proposal of a central vault Citizens could use to protect their valuables was accepted and the First Bank of Bymere was established on a trial basis.

Make a list of the NPCs your players are likely to encounter. There’s the main antagonist and their minions, but you might have an innkeeper, the NPC who gives them the quest, maybe even an ally or two. Since we’re talking about a short adventure, we don’t need to spend a ton of time with them, so these questions should be enough: A Motivation: What do they want? Everyone has a desire: it could be something as mundane as “I want to eat an ice cream” or as deep as “I want to find the meaning of life”. In any case, this will define what the NPC is thinking when the PCs meet them. A Message: What do they do or say? What information do they want to share? This can be at the specific moment they meet with the party or in general. A Secret: What’s something they don’t want to do or say? Everybody has secrets! They might never come into play, but if they do, they give the character a much deeper personality. A Stat block: if you expect the players to fight them, you should have a stat block ready. Of course, if you love creating characters and have enough time, you can go as crazy as you want. But always keep in mind that most of what you create might never see the light of day, especially in a one-shot.   Bank Manager - Mr Jin (dragonborn) Motivation: Not get fired.
