The Spine
The Spine is a controversial mining settlement located in the wastes of Raldmar. The bones of a Titan, half buried in rock, lay there beneath the camp. It is so named because the Titan's spine is clearly visible above ground, and snakes a great distance along the ridge of a mountain. Exposed regions of the Titan's spine gleam in the daylight. The creature's spine is rich in valuable ores, particularly rare earth metals, and a mining company managed to obtain the rights to extract that ore despite conflicts with locals over the destruction of the historic site. The mine has been in place for several years, but it has hardly made a dent in the supply of ore present there.
Defences
Though there has never been any attack on the settlement, the mining company outfitted the mine with secure defenses due to the embattled nature of the mine's legal status. The series of mid size artillery weapons stationed around the mine has on more than one occasion proved useful against the desert's dangerous nighttime predators.
Industry & Trade
Most inhabitants of The Spine are miners, though a number of merchants and other tradesfolk have taken up residence there and provide the settlement with the resources needed to thrive. The primary export is the ore mined from the Titan's spine.
History
The Spine was once a natural landmark in the desert region of Raldmar. The Titan's body remained virtually untouched for millennia, until one mining company managed to obtain the rights to mine it. The local population fought the company, but failed to stop the opening of the mine.
Geography
The region is largely subtropical desert, with rocky, sandy soil.
Natural Resources
There are few natural resources in the area besides the ore of the Titan's spine. A number of resources have to be imported, though some farm animals have been brought to the region to help feed the miners.
