Winter Special - Day 7

General Summary

The heroes are in a mixed place at the start of the session. Lizzy and Alistair have been enchanted by the brats, stuck asleep for the day. It’s only by shear luck and timing that they’ve not also enchanted the others. This leaves Thistle and Soren at the cabin.
Amethyst is just arriving. She finds the Snowbolds playful. They even begin a snowball fight with her. Though she also finds a trail of blood on the ground. They’ve attacked someone in the night. There’s streaks indicating he was dragged off. Soren and Thistle reunite with Amethyst before following the streaks.
They discover a man trying to scare off the playful Snowbolds. Presumably they’re the ones who attacked him in the night. They’re normal now. He’s lost a lot of blood and has lost most of his mind. Soren steps the bleeding with his frostbite. It freezes the blood near his skin. Damaging, sure, but it keeps him from bleeding out. They make various attempts at persuading him. He seems to have no idea where he is or what’s happened to him. After the freeze-heal, he is at least sensible enough to lead the way to a doctor.
The doctor lives atop a hill/ridge over the area. Master Quaeth. One of the monks from the Sky Isles. They’ve abandoned their place there, unable to stop the monks and unwilling to continue their involvement. They’re quick to diagnose the man brought in, John. Start treating him fast. The heroes discover Quaeth hasn’t realized the chaos going on. And Quaeth quickly groans about the kids causing yet more trouble. Their parents are never around and someone keeps giving them spellbooks.
It doesn’t take long for Quaeth to help, leading the heroes to their workroom to begin mixing potions. Thistle for her part buys 5 healing potions and sneaks off to Quaeth’s private quarters upstairs. Soren provides a distraction.
Upstairs Thistle discovers a messy space. This monk has abandoned all sense of order in their living space. There are shelves of books, but many are just missing. This is determined by gaping spaces in what is otherwise packed shelves. It seems out of place. There’s almost a pattern to it. It’s hard to tell though.
Downstairs, Quaeth gives Amethyst a potion that’ll turn her attacks to fire for a limited time. Everyone is given a potion to stop the Snowbolds, but this won’t be easy. They need to capture the original Snowbold, which has by now grown into a vast and powerful monster. In particular, they need to surround its icy-heart with the potion they were given to render it inert until Quaeth can dispose of it.
On the way back to the cabin, the party makes an unsettling discovery: the Snowbolds are turning evil even in broad daylight. A group of them attack yet another victim. The party intervenes, saving the man. He’s well aware of the kids’ mischief and is now stuck babysitting them after his rescue.
Next time the heroes will face… the King Snowbold.
