The Forsaken Bog - Day 9
General Summary
The heroes arrive at the city, their best chance to gain supplies and find out any new information about the Bog. Their first challenge comes at the front gates. The guards are hard to persuade, especially with Jane the Manticore along with them. They’re rightfully worried about everyone having a monster along with them.
Ultimately, Thistle is able to convince them. They believe the Fairy’s Tales about saving the manticore, turning her back to an elf. There’s something there for them.
Inside they need to find the Sentinels, though the city is bustling and busy. No one’s paying them any attention. Alistair begins to perform, rapidly growing a crowd around them. Soren attempts to sing, only to be silenced by Alistair’s mage hand. Still, it works, they get the attention of Sentinel Captain Miller. They’re shown to the Sentinel’s HQ, where they’re given a briefing about the bog. In exchange for that, Miller will see what he can find about transformation for Jane, even though it’s outside the Sentinel’s area of interest.
From there, the heroes are able to explore a market area of town. Alistair immediately runs off to a bar where he meets Viansola. Soren leads Thistle and Amethyst in search of supplies. He finds a forge where he promptly produces armor for the two of them, leaving behind what he hopes is enough money to cover the supplies used.
Viansola decides to join the Harbingers after talking with Alistair. They set out in search of the others, when they encounter an old memory for Alistair: Demon Chickens. The heroes fight the chickens, though unfortunately are mistaken for vandals by the town guard. They saw Alistair’s eldritch blast and mistook it as an attack on town property. There’s a great deal of persuasion and intimidation. It leads one guard to flee for help while the other stands his ground.
One last chicken from behind casts Fireball before scrambling off. The remaining guard is nearly killed in the explosion. It looks to the arriving reinforcements like Alistair and Viansola are responsible. A chase begins, with Viansola shoving Alistair over her shoulder and rushing off, ultimately throwing Alistair in a barrel before trying to find the wounded guard to get the story set straight.
Soren and the others meanwhile have had lunch at a local bakery. They hear the ruckus and quickly come out. When Soren discovers Alistair in the barrel, he proceeds to try and get him out, only for Alistair to scramble back in. Repeat attempts lead to Alistair eventually slamming the lid. Soren’s tempted to send the barrel rolling around as revenge for the earlier mage-hand to the muzzle.
The party believes their business is done here. They reunite with the Sentinels and are moved into a temporary guild hall for the night. They’re given a quick tour and then it’s bed time. Or time to rest as they see fit.
