Sky Isles - Day 3 - Midnight

General Summary

The heroes begin their adventure, tired and groggy at midnight. Cassel has come running into the tavern, exhausted and out of breath. He was supposed to be taking them to a mountain top. That's immediately out of the question as he announces they need their help. One of the villagers has been attacked and is stranded on the floating mountains just beyond the bridge.
  Alistair is immediately dismayed to find himself riding their trusty flying leopard. Razer Beak. They're greeted with Amethyst, trapped in a tree. And cornered by two Manticore. Alistair is able to lure one of the manticore aside with a toy made of rope in his pack. The monster is quickly distracted (by a TWENTY FOUR roll/crit hit).
  The others have a more eventful battle against the remaining Manticore. For much of the fight, Alistair is trapped under his new manticore friend, with nowhere to go. He's able to use his Mockery attack/spell on the other Manticore, causing it to attack him and his Manticore. They briefly fight each other until at last, the aggressive Manticore is beaten.
  Alistair attempts to befriend the remaining manticore. And succeeds. It follows them to the village where they are sternly warned about the beast. And that there may be repercussions if the beast harms anyone.
  It's 3AM at this point. The manticore is to be held in the stables. Under guard. Precautions are required, it is a wild animal. The heroes greatly wish to return to bed, but that's not an option at the moment. Cassel still wants to take them to the mountain. Kayden overhears some of the talk and becomes suspicious.
  The heroes want a brief rest, food, but Cassel is insistant that they are burning moonlight.
  At the mountain, they're presented with the problem: anything they do, must be stealthy. Or they will draw the attention of guards.
  Soren leaps up the first jump, a 40' climb. He drops a rope for Alistair. It almost doesn't work out, Alistair face plants to the wall and is then able to save himself and scramble up. Thistle and Amethyst can just fly. Easy for them.
  From there, some flying chunks of rock are the last obstacle. Soren takes a shortcut to avoid a stealth check. The others take an easier route, but with greater risk of detection. And they are nearly caught. A light is shined on them. A quick illusion is necessary to distract the guards and let them by.
  Most of the heroes struggle with the cold, but Soren loves it.
  Atop the mountain, a dice is rolled, the heroes collect 10 flowers, and there are only 10 present. They're split between Soren and Alistair's backpack before it's time to go down.
  Alistair makes a fatal mistake: mentioning that it's too bad they don't have a sled.
  Soren uses his tools to fashion a sled from rocks, wood, and everything sitting around. It's a crit-success on the roll. They're soon blasting down the mountain. Soren in front, Thistle in his backpack, then Alistair, Amethyst, and finally Cassel.
  Cassel gives them a push before jumping on. The way down is an athletic, thrilling, and terrifying experience. Soren yelling lean left/lean right. They're about to crash into the mountain side, but Amethysts wings are enough to swing them into the turn. She's nearly blown off by the manuever. Alistair grabs her and is pulled along. Cassel is just barely able to pull them back to the sled. Just in time for their next problem: a rock. There's massive rocks in their way and no room or time to turn again.
  Soren uses his frostbite cantrip to freeze the ground ahead of them, the sled gains speed and ramps up off the rocks, flying through the air. The bulk of teh team fail a stealth check, saved only by Thistle. A guard notices them flying by on the sled, but is not sure who is on it or what happened. The only problem now is landing: they're well over 40' in the air.
  Their only solution is a quick contraption. Soren yells for everyone to jump. A moment later, he hurls a device to the ground that spews a foamy-spongey substance. They're all caught safely, bouncing on the ground. Safe and sound. Amethyst believes she is injurred in the fall, but is alright.
  It is 5 AM when they return to the village. They discover a problem. Cassel is taken away by Kayden and other monks. He's been charged with going atop the mountain. The others saw him or knew about it. The heroes are left in a bind. They don't know what punishment he faces. They only know they were part of it and they don't want to see him harmed. Cassel for his part, looks as if he is facing the death penalty.
  The heroes move back to the Tavern for the morning, finally getting a chance to eat.
