Owlventure - Day 24
General Summary
The heroes set out with a boat built by the bees. It's a wild and chaotic ride through rain-induced flooding. Of course, it's only a flood at a small scale, with rivers running between the blades of grass. The heroes are nearly tossed overboard and struggle to avoid motion sickness as their ship bounces, bobs, and spins. Thistle is able to push and muscle the ship along, though struggles with some of the waves. They're setting out to capture Randal, the Sparrow who'd been abusing Carl the Fox (and is believed to be behind everything).
A trap is set, first with a coin, it's polished and grown to massive size. There is a false-positive when their trap first catches Gilfy's attention. They manage to get her into cover where she makes a little nest and naps (it is afterall, day time). The heroes spend most of the day waiting for their chance. And then, at last, he arrives.
Randal swoops down, lured in by the shiny coin. Thistle immediately freezes him to the coin. He's trapped. The interrogation though, proves a struggle. Randal's wings are enough to hurl the heroes about the woodstump, it's a challenge to approach him and even harder to intimidate or persuade him. He seems uncaring and unremorseful for everything that's happened.
Before long, he's boasted to the heroes that they can't stay: who will save the bees?
While Randal's been here, the bees are under attack. In order to prevent their bird from flying away, Thistle burns him with her sphere of fire. She seems all too eager to cause pain and harm. Gilfy hurriedly carries the heroes through the weather and rain. There is a whole swarm of wasps fighting the bees. Several wasps are carrying strange, glowing objects. One falls and the heroes can see, it's effectively napalm. All hell has broken loose. Gilfy can't get in close to drop them on the ground. Instead, she dumps them in the air, the heroes landing on more agile bees to fight the wasps, or in Thorne's case, slaying wasps the whole way to the ground.
Thistle rains down ice and hail, there is a last minute rescue to save her and Soren before it's time to face the results of the terrible battle: wounded bees, fire everywhere, napalm spread all over. A log adjacent to the main hive has been burned. There's lesser fires in the grass. Aid is slowly trickling in, Owls with healing supplies, though their size makes it difficult for them to fully care for the injured bees.
