The Wars of Awakening
Precious, precious little is known of the times immediately following the conclusion of the Great Diminishing. What is clear is that the mortal's adoption of "top of the food chain" was not a graceful endeavor.
With the world finally within the grasp of men, elves, and dwarves, there was a mad scramble to seize the lofty thrones of the great Titans before. Powerful, primordial sorcerers rose to the top of the disparate factions and it is they who crafted into being the very first magical artifacts. Most of them have since been lost to the sands of time, but one collection of wondrous objects have remained salient over the eons: the Gems of Power.
It is unknown how many Gems were created, but legend holds each endowed its wielder with incredible power of a specific domain; things like the mind, raw strength, fire, tempests, etc. These were the weapons that the earliest mortal kingdoms used to wage war with each other. These wars could have lasted millennia if it weren't for an extraordinarily powerful sorcerer managed to gather several of the Gems and achieved a level unto that of a demigod. It was because of him that the countless warring factions put aside their difference and joined to fight their common, existential threat.
In the ages to follow, several of the Gems of Power have cropped up from time to time; always altering the flow of history in favor of their wielders. However, none have been seen for many centuries. Some claim Antecea feared them falling into the hands of their enemies and saw them destroyed. Others yet believe the Gems remain, and simply lie in wait for a worthy wielder to gather them again.
