The Province of the Kateran Wastes

The Kateran Wastes is a mass of land completely inhospitable to mortals. It is a vast desert dotted with rolling dunes and rocky outcroppings. If the hostile environment wasn't bad enough, the region is covered in malignant magic. Very few travelers ever return from the Wastes, and those that do speak of massive dust storms that crop out of nowhere, uncanny mirages, and even bizarre creatures.

Curiously, the generally accepted laws of ecology make it clear that a sandy desert like the Kateran Wastes has absolutely no business existing where it does, and yet, here it is all the same. Ideas on what magical phenomena led to its creation are little more than conjecture and guess work.

Some believe that the Wastes were once a hospitable place with an environment much more akin to Horizon and Kentro. However, such claims have little proof, save the odd Antecean ruin that breaks up the endless ocean of dust and dirt.
