City of Brass

The City of Brass is the center of civilization as it exists on the Plane of Fire. In ancient times when sentient life seeded itself on the plane, they were drawn to the gleaming spire jutting out of the flame. The ancients laid claim to the Spire and willed a great brass disc into existence around the tower. Over the millennia, more thinking denizens of the plane or those who found themselves lost there came to the Spire and the city as it is today slowly took form.
In primordial times, the dragons and giants fought viciously for dominion over the city, with the fire giants ultimately laying claim to it with aid of the efreeti and seeding it with the azer who would serve as its stewards. After the Great Diminishing, the giants no longer wielded the influence needed to maintain a presence in the City of Brass and leadership fell to the efreeti, who have ruled ever since.
In the age of man, the City of Brass became a legend to most and a cradle of wealth and opportunity for those with the know-how to reach it. Azur craftsmanship was superior even to the greatest dwarven artisans and channeled elemental magic by dividends more. Jewelry and metalwork forged in the primordial flames could last untarnished for centuries. And most tantalizingly, the efreeti who made the city their home offered phenomenal cosmic power; for a price of course.
