Kasnir Balgoryn Or'Sedan (a.k.a. Kaz)

Kasnir Or'Sedan is Istari Or'Sedan's uncle, her father's brother. He is a master smith.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Kasnir is large, tall for one of the Ronar, and broad across the shoulder. His features are similar to those of his brother, Cairon, but more boulder-like, as is the rest of him. He has a crooked nose from breaking, and his forearms are covered in burn scars.

Kasnir dresses in darker colours, in the typical functional style of the Ronar. He does dress more plainly than the average Ronar, avoiding the embroidery and brighter colouring of the typical style of dress.

Kasnir grew up in a small village called Ovaya'ro, near O'prav'ka, the larger town where he apprenticed as a blacksmith. After his apprenticeship, he travelled to Corgomath to open his own smithy.

History

Kasnir is Istari's uncle, and therefore has a very high opinion of her. He has a soft spot for her, and cares for her deeply. Kasnir taught Istari most of what she knows about fighting and survival, based on his belief that magic may be able to do much, but you should be able to take care of yourself without it. He made the knives presented to her upon her Ascent alongside a staff made by her father. Istari spent long sunny afternoons in his forge watching him work as a child (and as an adult).

History

Cairon and Kasnir are brothers, Kasnir the older. Kasnir was always the more reckless as a child, with Cairon being more responsible, but less focused. Kasnir apprenticed to a blacksmith and has had a career in smithing since, but Cairon was always less driven and has vascillated between careers. Kasnir, while he loves his brother and helps to support him, feels that Cairon struggles to commit to wanting one thing or another and is irritated by his aimlessness, and by the fact that their mother fawns over Cairon regardless. Cairon, who love his brother just as much, feels that Kasnir is too complacent with what he has, and that he does not put in enough effort towards his relationship with family members other than Istari.

Kasnir is very similar in look and countenance to Horst from the Inheritance Cycle or Tam Al'Thor in the Wheel of Time. He is strong, wise, and calculating. Kasnir is gentler though, with a care for animals and others that is belied by his rough exterior. He has kind eyes, and a raucous laugh. Would likely be played by Kurt Russell.
