Silverquill Dedication
A college for literature nerds where students
wield the magic of words, from inspiring
battle poetry to biting arcane insults. You can
increase your dedication by the following
means:
• Read and write as much as you can.
• Experience literature in person from your peers.
• Be creative and unique.
These contests can be spoken word poetry which is judged appraised by a set of peers, an educator or even a dean, a contest of insults (sometimes set to music), or even a contest of who can write the greater piece of literature.
The students who enter usually wager their own standing against the other. For example, a new student besting a veteran would gather their more Dedication than a veteran going against a new student. See the below table for reference on how to gain or lose Dedication through Warring Words.
To determine the winner of Warring Words, both sides must make three skill checks relevant to their contest. The person who wins two out of three of these contested checks wins the contest. Some example checks you can make:
Charisma. Your ability to deliver insults in a contest of insults.
Charisma (Deception). Used for a contest of insults, this skill seeks to smear your opponent’s reputation with lies.
Charisma (Persuasion). Used in performing your poetry or when delivering insults to your opponent.
Charisma (Performance). Used for delivering poetry to crowds or insulting your opponent in Warring Words.
Intelligence. Your ability to craft poetry or literature.
Intelligence (History). Using your knowledge of the ancient world to write historical works of literature, poetry or recall devastating secrets about your opponent to reveal them mid-battle.
These contests usually happen once every month but occasionally bitter rivals will go head-to-head every few days.
You gain the ability to cast vicious mockery. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell. When you cast spell with a casting time of one action or take the attack action, you can use your bonus action to cast vicious mockery.
Twice a day when a creature within 30 feet makes an attack roll or saving throw, you can use your reaction to add your Charisma modifier to the result. You must di this before the success of the roll is determined. You regain any expended uses after a long rest.
When you use an action to cast vicious mockery, if the creature fails the next attack that hits the creature before the start of your next turn becomes a critical hit.
A formidable weaver of stories who enchants the minds of those who hears your tales. You are a master of Silverquill and a legendary creator.
You gain +2 to your Intelligence or Charisma score. Your maximum for this score increases by 2.
