The Spire

The Chivalrous Griffin Knights

Sitting atop the northern end of the Harpy Coast mounatins rises the Spire. This unusual mountain towers high above the surrounding ones and is the home to the Knights of the Spire. They are a group of griffin riding knights, that trace their history back to the Dragon Wars. The order was founded by Commander Barkruff and sees the whole of Greenwold as their charges to keep safe. The Spire is the sight of a Dragon Forge, a magic flame that burns forever. It acts as a beacon and lighthouse to ships at sea as it can be seen for miles around. The Spire and the Knights are considered to be neutral in the affairs of dragons and were historically envoys and a place where dragons could meet in safety. The records state that the Citadel is a massive complex of structures that takes up the whole peak of the Spire. The buildings and halls are built on and in the mountain itself, crafted with ancient Dragon Magic. They are supposedly magically warded to keep the weather out while having large enough windows to allow griffins to fly in. They're also described as austere and almost monastic in the sparse way they are furnished. As a part of the defense of the Spire many of these buildings are not connected to each other and require flight to move between them. Because of the way the mountain towers above the others, the weather is quite extreme and erratic. If you attempt to climb the mountain, be prepared for sudden wind, rain, or snow storms. There is a road that leads up to the Spire, but it is seldom used and in poor repair. Especially since the Knights themselves fly everywhere on their griffins. If you decide to make the climb, also be on the lookout for the magic goats of the mountain. These are rumored to have been ordinary goats that became enchanted after living with the presence of the Dragon Magic for so long. They are said to be intelligent, and often meditate on the meaning of the universe while standing on the tops of the mountains.
