Arcan Magic

To the Arcan , magic is a natural force like everything else on the planet and exists in all things, to an extent. Where they differ from their contemporaries is that they don't believe in "bad" magic or "good" magic finding such principles to be a contrivance purported as a means to control. As magic is a core part of an Arcan's being, the Arcan focus on individual uses of their magic and punish individuals found of callous misuse or having intent to harm.

Schools of Magic:

The Arcan classify magic in the following categories, referred to as schools for short: Domestic, Combat, Esoteric

Domestic Magic:

Magic in this category are spells wherein the primary usage of the spell is suitable for every day use. This includes spells related to agriculture, horticulture, diving, healing, and more. While some of the spells can be adapted to combat, the general use being for non-combative purposes puts those techniques into this category.

Combat Magic:

Magic far too dangerous to be taught as domestic magic and should only be used in martial arts or war such as elemental conjuration. Many of the techniques and spells are adapted from the domestic magic. This type of magic is also referred to as War Magic.

Esoteric:

Magic that is only taught to those that become scholars. These are often rituals, enchantments, and spell crafting. Most magic in this category is considered specialty magic and often is divvied up into further categories.

Religious Beliefs:

A hot topic for many scholars is whether the Arcan view on magic should be considered a religion. The Arcan, however, were a group of secular animists. They did not worship a pantheon of deities, nor did they have any, and would meditate and study the natural world. Scholars often mistake the murals of the Thauma as murals depicting the Arcan worshipping the Thauma.

These teachings arise from the legend of "The First" and have been passed down throughout the generations.
