Gore and Dismemberment System
Dismemberment systems in video games are a series of coding's that allow players the ability to sever or completely detach limbs from characters, often resulting in more realistic and visceral combat experiences. As video games continue to evolve, the detail within their graphics and system capabilities become even better than ever.
As such it is no surprise that a game such as the Silent Frontier Series which is noted for its violence would have such a detailed system. It’s a wild world out there after all, and while in it, players looking forward to their survival should expect to have some limbs flying about; whether their own or someone else's.
Silent Frontier pushes the limits of the genre of survival horror with intense gory realism: taking inspiration from games such as rockstars Red Dead Redemption 2, Silent Frontiers incorporates a highly detailed gore system that aims for a high level of realism in its portrayal of violence and injury, despite the many "unreal" characters you may inflict it upon.
Grotesque monsters can be maimed and mercilessly torn to pieces. In doing so shredded flesh, exposed bones, and eviscerated carcasses largely abound. Bullet wounds, arrow wounds, and even stab marks, Silent Frontiers exhibits a strong degree of realism thanks to the games VISCERA System, that realistically allows players to tear enemies all the way down to their bones, as well as permit realistic Bullet and Weapon effects as well as Weapon-specific reactions: the type of reaction dictated depending on what weapon your using and where you shoot an enemy or animal that impacts the response. Visual damage to creatures also depends on what kind of weapon they were harmed with. Bladed weapons can cleanly chop off limbs, while Serrated blades may leave less of a clean cut.
Heavy blunt weapons can cave in a skull or crack a ribcage and shooting enemies with gun's creates realistic-looking bullet holes and blood splatters; powerful weapons like shotguns and explosives can also result in complete dismemberment and decapitation or absolute total corpse annihilation.
Dismemberment systems in video games often range from simple cosmetic effects to more complex systems that impact gameplay. Cosmetic Dismemberment for example, focuses mainly on visual effects, meaning that while limbs are detached or could possibly be severed, it doesn't significantly affect gameplay or enemy behavior. Where as Gameplay-Impact Dismemberment is a key mechanic and is often crucial for incapacitating or defeating enemies.
This variant of the Dismemberment System mechanic was made famous from games such as Visceral Game's Dead Space franchise; where targeting and severing the limbs of the games wide-range of horrific Necromorph-based enemies often meant the difference between life and death. Or in this case the simple difference between life and the possibility of grotesque reanimation.
