Aberrant Overview
Aberrant, also known as “Mutants”, are the principal antagonists of Arcane: Silent Frontiers.
By in-game definition, Aberrant are a collection of monsters who have been warped by various means, changing both their physical appearance and behavior, often making them much more aggressive and stronger then their normal unaltered counterparts.
Many Aberrant found within the Zone are the result of B.O.W testing. Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W. for short) are genetically-altered organisms created with the intent of either being used as military and paramilitary weapons, or were created to further previous research into military and paramilitary weapons. However, unlike in games like Resident Evil, where the term B.O.W is a rigid definition used only to describe those designed by the Military themselves, and as such does not include mutants not created as an intentional creation of a Bio-Organic Weapon project, the term in Silent Frontiers is far much less rigid. This is often because given that all mutants, even those adapting outside of Military study, all start out as Military bio-testings in some way or another, mean’s that any Mutant discovered within the Zone is designated as a property of the Military, effectively classifying them as B.O.W even if the original project they originated from was deemed a “failure” or if the Mutant had adapted in ways that remove it from the original testing.
Because of this while many mutants designed specifically to be B.O.W’s are classified as such, any mutant also once deemed a “Failure” who has long since adapted to changes and mutated in specific ways are still classified as B.O.W’s, unlike in Resident Evil where B.O.W’s do not include mutants created due to outside sources.

A diverse class of creatures, often consisting of animals, humanoids and, most likely often, hybrids, Aberrant make up a majority of the fauna and oftentimes flora that the player will encounter within the ZONE.
In simple terms, one can often divide mutants into three categories:
1- Mutants who appeared due to the environment
2- Mutants who were created by experiments
3- Mutants whose origin is unclear
Aberrant behavior is invariably violent: though many variants are often intelligent enough to demonstrate simple problem-solving skills and a rare few even seem to possess human intellect, they cannot be reasoned, bargained or negotiated with in any way. In fact many seem to exist to solely kill on sight, eliminating life without mercy until the area has been cleansed of it. This intolerance to life seems to also even extend to fellow Aberrant and as a result, it is not unheard of to hear stories of Aberrant turning on each other, with many not hesitating to slice a fellow mutant up or pound them into mulch if the opportunity so arises.
This extreme violent behavior found in many is thought to be most of the reason why many Aberrant were originally abandoned by the military. Ineffective B.O.W’s focused solely on killing instead of following orders is thought to have made many project’s unusable and unstable; to simply put it lightly, due to their enhanced high level of aggression, many are or were very difficult to control and manage. However what is still unknown is exactly the reasons as to why even with this intense display of aggression why many Aberrant were simply dumped instead of destroyed. While the answer may never be as concrete as people may hope, many hypothesize that even with their down-sides that the Military still saw many as a learning opportunity, intending to “Learn from their Mistakes”, so to speak.
Whatever the case, even the "weakest" Aberrant is most effective in combat, with even the smallest being capable of inflicting lethal force with relative ease, and civilians caught up are often killed en masse, with all but the very best-trained and best-equipped groups surviving considerably much longer.
Though even they can find themselves greatly overwhelmed with ease. . .
Aberrant are horrid, visually terrifying creatures that are frequently, if not always, trying to kill something. Be it the protagonist and, sometimes, even each other. The biological makeup of the mutant’s is often something of a mystery even to the few experts that continue to research them, for precisely how such organisms can function despite their numerous deformities is often difficult to determine.
Similar to games like Monster Hunter and even such games like Dead Space, many mutant’s found in this game often have concrete biological reasoning for their abilities. However many others seem to delve into realms far from the convention of normal understanding, with many being so mutated and biologically “imperfect” that they seemingly garner abilities and behavior that many would deem “Supernatural” or without plausible cause or understanding, such as telepathic or telekinetic abilities.
Mutants with abilities such as these are often code-named: Psyker, and they are indeed a rare-breed. So rare in fact that many have garnered a sort of “Mythological Folkloric” type-status in many parts of the Zone. Outside of these rare-breeds, a person can often suspect being trampled, chewed on and even punched to death by many other mutants not "lucky" enough to garner such abilities. And that's only if your Lucky
there are many ways to die terribly in the Zone.
