Illusionist's Magemark Spell in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Illusionist's Magemark

" Take this rune and express yourself, freely."
— a Caster preparing to cast an Illusionist's Magemark spell

An Illusionist's Magemark is a special sign, symbol, or insignia chosen to represent the Caster. This special mark can be used as a symbol to represent the Caster's status or as a piece of cosmetic decorum, or it can enchant a Subject or Object.

The one who carries the Illusionist's Magemark can change the appearance of the one who bears the mark. In addition, this spell works on Object's to change their general appearance.

Effect

Illusionist's Magemark is cast either as 1 Action or 1 Full Action. Depending upon the way it is cast determines the results.

The Illusionist's Magemark can be used to replace other Magemarks. This allows the Caster to remove a rival Magemark from either a Positive or Negative Spell-Stack. This spell applies the "Illusionist's Magemark" both to the Subject and the Caster's Spell-Stacks as a Positive Condition.

In addition, applying the Magemark has one of two benefits, chosen when casting the spell. Either it can be applied as a decorum, which will stay upon an item or Subject as if it were ink, or it can be applied as a Condition, which will affect both the Caster and Subject's Spell- Stack. It requires 1 Action to remove a Magemark. Dispel magic effects or the spell Erasure entirely removes a Magemark.

The Caster can place this Magemark either upon themselves, a Subject, or an Object. At any point during the enchantment of the Magemark, as 1 Free Action on the Caster's turn, a Caster can change the cosmetic appearance of an individual; the Subject can only change one cosmetic feature in a round (as 1 Free Action). This spell doesn't affect any clothing or items worn by the individual. Instead, it changes features, such as skin, eyes, hair, height appearance, weight appearance, or gender, making the Subject appear as someone else of their species for the remainder of the spell. Anyone who physically interacts with the Subject is offered a chance to perceive through the illusion through disbelief (PERCEPTION Proficiency or Spirit check DC: 10+Caster's Psyche Modifier). This spell doesn't change the sound of one's voice. There may be other moments when a disbelief check may be called (GM's Discretion).

An unwilling recepient automatically receives the opportunity to disbelieve the spell.

Cast as 1 Full Action, Illusionist's Magemark has a duration of 3 minute per Caster's Psyche Modifier and requires an ATTUNEMENT Proficiency check (DC: 15). Caster's don't lose this spell from their pool if it results in spell failure.

Side/Secondary Effects

When placed upon an Object, the Caster can change the Object's appearance. This spell can only be used on Medium or Small items or 5ft. radius surfaces. The finished appearance must still be an Object of that type (a statue can be made to look like another statue, a door another type of door, a coat can look like a different coat, etc.). Small cosmetic features can also be added or removed.

In addition, if the Caster has placed a Magemark, be it on a Subject, surface, or Object, if it is within Line of Sight to the Caster, the Caster can project their voice through it as 1 Action. The Caster speaks out loud and the Magemark projects the voice.

Manifestation

"The Caster draws a greenish-pink sigil on the statue. In an odd moment of shaping and configuring, the statue went from slate gray to bright pink, the eyes bulged and ballooned, and the whole thing shrank, until it resembled a charicature of it's former self. This did not impress the statue's artisan. "Sorry", the statue belched."

Multiple Magemarks can't affect a single Subject or an Object (unless this spell is cast as "Decorum"). Essentially, a Subject can't be under the effect of multiple Magemarks. A new Magemark replaces the old one instantly.

Magemarks are often used to distinguish certain Caster from others. Groups of Casters may share a common Magemark.
