History of the Scrivener

The Scrivener was first designed by Macromancers as a tool for note- keeping as they engaged in other activities. "Amanuensis" was already a popular spell, but limitations due to the Law of Diminishments made this an impractical approach for mass producing texts and copies.

Macromancers developed the first Scrivener; by enchanting a pen and ink with the "Amanuensis" spell and binding it to an implement, the creators had an instrument that could record their thoughts and words without lifting a hand. While this was quite the invention, the question of how to create mass productions was still on the minds of the developers.

Eventually, a talented Alchemist by the name of Dophie Pensdale, who had already made a name for himself as a proprietor of the Scrivener, took the technology and developed it further. Dophie established the company "Pensdale Group" at the beginning of Scrivener's public release. Dophie eventually purchased the original patent for the Scrivener at 250K Casho. This led to several adaptations to the Scrivener: color ink, new fonts, modes, and designs became popular but the question of mass production was still debatable.

During the process of creating the better device, Pensdale Group developed a wide arrange of adaptations to the Scrivener. New colors of ink, fonts and pen designs continued to ensorcel the public. Pensdale Group was approached by a board of investors who wanted to know if the Scrivener could be re- designed for the purposes of enchanting items. Dophie Pensdale led a hired group of enchanters to research the Solder- the main tool used in the connection of magical circuits in Pensdale's era. This ambition led to the development of the first Sodor: a device much like the Scrivener, except it is used for the purposes of enchanting magical items.

The Sodor replaced the Solder, as it became the most common tool in an Enchanter's kit. While the process of Sodoring magical items still requires the hands and attention of the owner, the Sodor made the process easier by allowing for automatic processing through programmable commands. These "Auto- Script" commands became it's own language. The E-S-C stands for "Enchanter's Source Code" and is a pivotal part of understanding the nuances of item enchantment. The "S" in E-S-C is interchangable with the word "Sodor"; the language of E-S-C became much more condensed, thanks to the Sodor.

Pensdale Group used this new understanding of E-S-C to create two final products: the Scrivener Printer and the Scrivener Press. As a personal device, the Scrivener Printer was the first model of the Scrivener Press. By using 3-5 Scriveners in the production and connecting them through networks of E-S-C latticed Aurorium, the Printer could handle multiple tasks set upon it through programmable ques.

Finally, the Scrivener Press had came about as the dream of Macromancers, Alchemists, writers and publishers everywhere! The first Scrivener Press was as large as a town hall and featured 20 individual Printers. Newer models that use the Scrivener Duo decreased the amount of Printers to need only 5. Pensdale Group created the first publication, the local newsletter of which Dophie had been an apprentice, and the success of the Scrivener Press led to the sell and production of Pensdale's machine.

Dophie Pensdale retired, leaving the Pensdale Group in the hands of it's board of investors, and inevitably, he passed away at the age of 478. Upon his deathbed, the patent for the press was shared with interested parties and new companies began developing their own versions.

Thanks to Dophie Pensdale's incredible commitment to support artists and writers within his community, Pensdale Group continues to supply the world with the latest in Scrivener Tech!
