Heat Wave Fan Item in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Heat Wave Fan

"The dancer's ornate fan was as enchanting as her dance, setting the stage ablaze in a glorious passion!"
— excerpt, review of the tragedy Fire Walks By Moonlight, H. Dowell Contributor Daily

This fan is shod in splendid Aurorium, appearing as lustrous as gold. The cloth of the fan is like crimson; as the fan is splayed, a pattern of a fire ball appears in the center. Rippling the fan causes warm emanations upon the air, like standing close to an open flame. A long red tassle, knotted in enchantments, trails like a flexible tail as the Caster flutters the fan.

The Heat Wave Fan gives Casters of that spell additional benefits.
When using Heat Wave, Casters may choose one of the following:

* Extend the line of Fire to 10 ft.
* Can create 2 Lines, instead of 1.
* Choose both of the standard effects of Heat Wave.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

When the owner of a Heat Wave Fan casts the Heat Wave spell, choose one of the following additional benefits:

* The line of Fire created by this spell now extends to 10 ft, catching anyone in it's area of effect on fire. This effect uses the secondary benefit of Heat Wave. Roll 1d4 Fire Damage and apply 1 pt of damage per turn. The subjects can attempt to put the flames out.

* Heat Wave creates 2 separate lines of Fire. The Caster can choose one or both of the effects for each line, however, the lines can't intersect. They must be separated by 5 ft. Roll 1d4 Fire Damage.

* The Caster can choose to have both effects take place, instantly creating a 5ft. line and igniting subjects within it's area. Roll once for damage- apply any damage over time per round.

In addition, the Heat Wave Fan gives all other Fire spells + 1 damage, as long as the Caster is using the fan as part of the casting.

Manufacturing process

Using the needle and thread, the artisan must be careful to use a hot needle in the process of sewing the cloth of the fan. The spines of the fan can be constructed using any insulating metal. After weaving the magic, the cloth can be woven through the spines. A Heat Wave spell is connected to the fan by an enchanted thread woven between the Aurorium and knotted into a cord tethered to the fan. Destroying the knotted cord will destroy the magical item.
