Gambler's Fate Die Item in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Gambler's Fate Die

"As fickle as fortune, glittering on a sea of gold, luck be my lover and favor the bold. Call it! "
— a lucky gambler at the Treasure House of Trevonon

A Gambler's Fate Die are a pair of small 6-sided die inscripted with only 2 runes, numbers, or sigils representing the forces of good and bad fortune. These die can be made of wood or metal. When they are used as a component, numbers or sigils appear to represent the numbers 1 through 6.

This set of enchanted die only work when they are together; a missing set is considered broken and will disenchat over the course of a year, unless reunited with the missing dice.

The Gambler's Fate Die is a Caster's tool when using the Fate Die spell. The Gambler's Fate Die is used when casting this spell and allows the Caster to moderately affect the outcome. Otherwise, the Gambler's Fate Die may be used to activate the spell once per encounter.

The Gambler's Fate Die houses the spirits of chance and luck that inhabit dice when this spell is typically cast.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

This item allows the owner to use Fate Die, as the spell, once per encounter, if they don't already know this spell. Otherwise, the item works when the owner casts a Fate Die and provides the benefits below.

When the owner rolls a single magical dice as a part of the Fate Die spell, the owner calls the result as even or odd.

If the result was Odd, then the owner can roll the dice again. If the result was Even, choose the highest result possible (+3), even if the result was the highest possible (6).

If the call was incorrect either way, roll the dice once more. The owner doesn't get the opportunity to call the result the second attempt, accepting the final outcome.

The owner can't have more than one Fate Die effect active on the stack, positive or negative.

This effect can be used when the owner decides to apply both die to affect another's luck with the Fate Die spell. The owner chooses to call one result: the owner's result or the target's result. Calling the roll of the die works in every way as described above.

Manufacturing process

Form the cubes from blocks of metal or wood. Apply the enchanted paint to the 6 sides. Infuse the spirit of fortune and misfortune, considering those relative events. Process takes approximately an hour.
