Fat Tongue Spell in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Fat Tongue

"I'm sorry, but I can't hear those insults with your mouth full!"
— a Necromancer's casting of a Fat Tongue spell

The Fat Tongue spell causes the Subject's tongue to swell, making it difficult to speak or shout. Casters incur severe penalties when attempting to cast a spell with a verbal component.

Effect

The Subject's tongue becomes engorged with the Source of Death. It doubles in size, causing trouble breathing and enunciating clearly. The Subject takes a -6 penalty on any Proficiency check that requires speech and communication, such as casting a spell or conveying a message to others.

A Fat Tongue spell lasts 1 round per the Caster's Psyche Modifier and takes effect instantly. A successful Grace Proficiency check (DC10+Caster's Psyche Modifier) by the Subject causes spell failure. The same Subject can't be affected by Fat Tongue in a single encounter, by the same Caster, pass or fail.

Side/Secondary Effects

In addition, the Subject under this spell is unable to eat or drink properly (including potions). Attempting to do so may cause choking.

This spell is a "Negative" condition and as such, is placed upon the Spell Stack.

Manifestation

"The Caster makes a sign by pulling their eyelid down and waggling their tongue from their open mouth. The flat words sputtered from the Caster's mouth causes the Subject's own cheeks to swell as the tongue falls over the lips and hangs blue, lifelessly as the victim tries to speak."
