Domimancy Spell in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Domimancy

Domimancy uses conjurations, summons, and evocations to bring forth powerful creatures from beyond the material realm. The House of Domi is represented by an inverted arc- 5 stars, representing the divine cosmology of the outer realms (The Highlands, Lowlands, Underworld, Mid- World, and Overworld) and an inner ring of 3 stars, representing the spiritual, material and cosmic planes. Domimancers are fond of Orange & Dark Blue, as these colors favor the energies of this magic. Those who study the practice spend hours researching different Patrons or new Sources for their Magic. Domimancy focuses on calling upon higher powers to manifest miraculous results. Their conjurations come from a Source and the powers they invoke through the Domi are awe- inspiring. The relationships between the spiritual and material realms can manifest as Pacts, as entities are fond of making contracts with those of the Corpus. Domimancers are known for their moral codes and taboos which are part of their discipline.

Effect

Channel:
A Domimancer channels Source energies for various purposes. Blessings and curses, enhancements or debilitations, and other spiritual aid are gained from channeling. Often these spells will induce the Domimancer into a trance- like state.
Translocation:
Domimancer can interpret the ley and energies that manifest from either magical or divine sources. They can use this information to find gates or doors to other dimensions. Using Planar Ley allows Domimancers to transport others to outer dimensions, if the conditions are right. Planar Ley can also be used to Banish outsiders back to their original planes.

Conjuration (Summoning):
Summoning is a specialty of Domimancy. Those whoe specialize in summoning are often referred to as Conjurors. The apparitions that manifest from a summoning . Direct and indirect summoning can be done through the use of Domimancy. Direct summoning will manifest an entity from another realm while an indirect summoning (call) summons an apparition. Conjuration requires successful communication with the entity and the Caster.
Favors:
As a result of indirect summoning, a Favor can be gained from an outer Source. These favors are well defined and will aid the Caster under contingent conditions. Favors may include mount or flight, imparting or imbueing a quality, or performing a certain action or attack at the precise moment. Favors may also bestow an entities items or possessions, if the entity allows.

Pact- Magic:
This type of magic contacts an outside entity and allow the entity to possess or embody the Caster for a brief time. Generally, a mutation or power is desired by the Caster and the entity grants the request by fusing with the Caster for some time. Pact- Magic can create extraordinarilly powerful effects.
Draw Out (Call):
A Drawing occurs on the same plane as the Caster. This effect calls to the spirit of a person or object which can be used for translocations, bringing the subject to a designated spot. By "drawing out" the inner spirit of an object, Domimancers use Animate spells which gives momentary life to mundane objects. Similarly, Animate can draw out a person's inner spirit in the form of an Aspect. This Aspect serves the Domimancer as a spiritual facet and representative of the self or as a battling spirit.

Side/Secondary Effects

Channel (Divinity):
Channeling divine powers requires the Caster to be connected to an entity or divine Source. Oracles specialize in channeling Domimancy spells to contact their deities and channel their powers. This allows them to Detect the presence of alignments in others, as well as interpret the intentions of others with a mystic intuition.
Planar Ley (Protection):
These spells can protect the Caster and others from the harmful effects of the realms they may travel through. These protections can also be used to protect the Caster in other ways, such as from the alignment- based attacks.
Conjuration (Calling & Drawing):
A Call spell is brief, summoning a manifestation of an entity or a Source energy. These spiritual avatars act like physical creatures but only exist briefly. The Call is an invocation and has specific conditions. A Calling may also be used for information, as this is the main method of Divination for Domimancers.
Commune:
Domimancers are able to commune at distance with people on the same plane or with entities from distant realms. While this seems natural for summoning, communication is an essential part of the powers of a Domimancer. These Communes provide insights that others wouldn't have access. A Source can provide valuable information regarding a question or problem.

Pact- Magic:
A side effect of constant use of Pact- Magic includes losing one's own identity to the entity that they are allowing to possess their body. These unruly Casters may lose themselves, which is why this is the most dangerous form of Domimancy. Pacts also have difficult conditions, representing a strong bargain of power.
Prepared Items (Calling)
Domimancers are also known for their connection to the spirits residing within objects. A prepared Domimancer can summon weapons, armor, and other items from their respective locations. Greater entities may also impart a weapon or armor for a brief moment.

Manifestation

Domimancy spells are associated with the Source they emanate from. A spell cast from one Source may feel different from the same spell cast from another Source. Energies from a Source may take on different appearances. These spells may induce deep- trances. Chanting is also a main verbal component of casting since Domimancy spells require provacative invocations.

The presence of a Patron in the casting of the spell tends to affect the area. Generally, those who observe the casting of a Domimancy spell may witness truly spectacular visions, such as ethereal realms of splendor (when the Source is Good, for ex.) or abyssal realms of chaos and woe (when the Source is Evil). The most powerful conjurations can affect the environment around the casting site, as the energies that coalesce struggle beneath the force of their breach of spiritual threshold.

When calling or drawing, a Domimancer may become more animate as they perform the rituals to appease the spirits. Many passionate dances have been adapted from the Domi summoning rituals, as the gestures of more powerful summonings may require more complex somatic gestures.

A Summon appears in a designated spot from a rift in the Veil. If the Domimancer is familiar with the spirit of the summon, they may also provide a seal or sigil. These powerful components aid in the casting, providing benefits and protection for the Domimancer (especially in uncertain situations with a summoned creature). When the summon departs, it leaves in similar fashion to the way that it had appeared.
