The King's new bride

This law concerns the marriage of any King-to-be of Arburg.
1. He must be married on his 21st birthday, and he is to officially meet his bride one month before this date.
2. She must be natively Arburg, having been born, raised and lived her whole life in some part of Arburg*. She can come from any class, and when the list of names is produced for possible candidates (see choosing process for more details), women from all classes must be taken into consideration. The birth year of the woman must be either one above, below, or the same as the prince's. She must be physically healthy.
3. The prince has no say in the matter.
4. The crown princes' weddings take place in the Grand Hall of the royal palace. All other royal weddings may take place where the couple in question wishes.

*Atra and Rascad not included.

Choosing Process

All the women of Arburg* that meet the conditions of #2 are put on a list, known as the Preliminary List. This is created by the Royal Scribe.
Once this list is completed, the current ruling King and Queen and the Elders (known as the Choosing Committee) get together for as long time as is needed to create the Final List in one sitting. No one is permitted to speak about this list to anyone, and it is filed away in the Confidential Archives once the Choosing is over. This list has the names of the Fifty Final candidates. These fifty women are carefully chossen by the Committee, based on their personal history and achievements. There must be no discrimination against outward appearance in this part of the Choosing process.
All the names are written on a slip of paper and put in an ancient vase of historical significance (known as the Choosing Vase), and the King himself pulls one name out of the Vase in the presence of the Committee, 32 days before the wedding is to take place and the current dwelling of the woman is sought out. Messengers are sent to all the settlements of Arburg* to publicly announce the news. The bride-to-be is given two days to get ready to move to the Palace permanently, and the Royal Guard watches her house. Once those days are up, she is transported to the palace, where she will live with the Royal Family for a month, during which she will be preparing for the wedding and learning the basics for her future position.
*Atra and Rascad not included.

History

It has been in existence since the monarchy came to be. Harold I made the rule, and his son, Harold II, was the first to marry in such a way.
