Spoitalian cooking

If you have read about the Arburgian town of Spoital, you will know that every aspect of Spoital revolves around water. If you haven't, please take the time to catch up by clicking this link: Spoital. (Trust me, it's worth your time. :))
Anyway, Spoitalians build their houses out of seaweed, go around their town in handmade boats, and their industrial activity is based around the revered Spoital River. One thing worth mentioning specifically, though is their cooking. Other Arburgian settlements have their own way of cooking, but none of it is as water-focused as Spoital's. Spoital makes use of the plants and animals that grow in the river or on its banks. They also make use fo marine life, as they live on a delta. This means that many dishes seem unusual to outsiders, but are seen as delicacies inside Spoital. Despite most of their meals being water-orientated, there are some dishes that use ingredients that are not available in Spoital, but these meals are not eaten often. Below are some of the ingredients that they use, and what they are used for.

Fish

Fish (of all sorts) are probably the most used ingredient in all of Spoital. They are found in almost every dish, and can be fried, roasted, boiled or even eaten raw in their famous lemon-fish salad.

Shrimp

Though not seen as commonly as fish, this tasty marine animal is implented into many of the Spoitalian dishes. Aside from shrimp, other types and varieties of seafood are also used a lot.

Frog

This is an example of one of the more disgusting sounding dishes, but Spoital's fried crumbed frog is a rare delicacy.

Algae

This plant is used both as food and medicine. It can be pureed and mixed with a bit of lemon and sugar to make a perfect baby food. It is also used in salads and puddings. Seaweed is also used in a similar way f.

Bulrushes

Also known commonly as cattails, bulrushes are used to make flour, syrup, or sugar and prepared in a raw salad or as a cooked vegetable. The cattail flour production means that Spoital doesn't have to import wheat flour, as this is the only flour they use.

Wild Celery

They love to use wild celery as that extra cherry on top. It is usually chopped up and sprinkled over meat dishes, usually fish.

History

Spoital's style of cooking has existed as long as the town has, and has become quite famous in the kingdom. Although it is not everyone's favourite culinary style, many people outside Spoital have taken a liking to it.
