Spoital River

It is a small, short river that flows directly from the Great Sea, its source being a lone Hill NE of its mouth. It runs through Spoital, which is built on its floodplains. It has no tributaries, but it does weave through the houses of Spoital in a braided fashion. It is rich in fish and other fluvial creatures and plants. It is the life source of Spoital. The river is only used by Spoitalians, who get pretty defensive when someone else is caught trying to exploit their river.
The river's channel is pretty shallow and relatively wide. The water is crystal clear as Spoitalians make a concious effort to keep it clean, and it is also warm for most of the year.
Its source is a small creek at the top of the beforementioned hill, and Spoitalians see it as a sacred place. Many of them make pilgrimages up there and have reported feelings of peace there. The source is closely guarded by a permanent guard that lives in a small cottage nearby.

History

In 154, the river was once badly polluted by a barrel of oil that leaked into it. It caused a devastating effect to the river's ecosystem and a yera-long famine in Spoital. Since then, the town's inhabitants reduced their oil stores and moved them further from the river. The spill was a huge scare and setback in its society, but they have revoverd almost fully since. The population drastically decreased and was at its lowest point in 156, but slowly started to rise again, reaching its pre-spill levels in the year 207. Spoital managed to thrive, and is doing so even now. Spoital River is well- known throughout the kingdom, also known as Clear River.
