Geodeic Snails

This giant species of snail are unique for their diet of rocks and minerals which causes their shells to become encrusted with formations of gems. As they get older, the crystal growths become larger and more prominent, eventually taking over the entire shell with twisting patterns of crystal.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These snails are truy giant, with adults ranging from 2-2.8m in length when fuly extended. Their shells average arond 1.2 - 1.8M in diameter.
Their shells are spiraled, thick and remarkably durable. Its surface is encrusted with vibrant crystal growths that reflect their mineral-rich diet and the ambient magical energy of the forest leaching down into the caverns they inhabit.
As young snails, their shells are covered with smaller, more uniform growths, as they age these grow larger and more pronounced. The oldest specimens can have twisting crystal spires and jagged outcroppings that make them resembele moving geodes.

Genetics and Reproduction

The snails prefer to mate with another, though they are capable of self insemination like many snails, they will lay many eggs in shallow pools of warm water, migrating hundreds of miles to reach their traditional mating grounds.

Growth Rate & Stages

It takes around six months to go from the eggs to a grown adult snail. Though their rate of growth will slow a lot after this, they will continue to grow throughout their life.
Their shells will start out with few small crystal growths evenly spread, this grows and combines over their life, becoming larger, more uneven and impressive as they age.
No one has observed a snail who has died of natural causes and it is possible that they are functionally immortal, slowly growning more massive and with ever larger and elaborate crystal shells.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Their diet needs to contain many rich minerals and various mosses and slimes that are all infused with magical energy, these can be found growing around certain areas that seem to follow a pattern like the ley lines of the world.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The have four stalks on their rounded heads, the upper two sense vibration and movemnet for navigating the tunnels and caves while the lower two are specialised to detect traces on magic energy that infses certain fungi, rocks and mosses in the caverns, which they love to eat.
