Arclight

A typical arclight is usually a small metal device with a housing for a glass dome. Inside the dome are several crystals that have been cut specifically. Stored arcane powe flows between the crystals and creates a glow that is used to provide artifical light. The device stores its own power and will work for several hours before begining to dim or they can be attached to a flowline that will provide a constant source from an Arcane Generator

Mechanics & Inner Workings

But finely attuning the Galvaris Crystal, the enegry flow can be directed, most commonly between three small crystals. More, and bigger, crystals will produce stronger light.   The arcane power increases the natural output of the faintly glowing galvaris, the cut facets lensing this flow into the other crystals, a loop of power that produces the ring of bright clear light.   The included arcane battery in each unit is another important development and allows the power to bring their light with them from home to their work station or help guide them home at night.

History

The Arcane Engineers first created arclights almost twenty years ago and were one of the first inventions that sealed that profession as an integral part of the empire rather than a fringe group of peddlars.

Significance

This safe and consistent artificial light that can be in every street and doesn't require the constant attentions of a magic user has changed life in the empire. Work goes on longer, the streets are safer and life can continue easily into the night.   This development helped to make Gharall into a powerhouse and eventually into an empire. Many citizens look to the arclight as a symbol of the Empire, a light in the darkness, the ingenuity of humans pushing back the encroaching forest.
