Kunal Darknoll

Kunal is the biological child of @Caesar Ninian Darknoll and the heir to the @Darknoll Family fortune, along with @Darknoll Manor itself. There have been many rumors suggesting that Kunal is jealous of his adopted sister over the years, as she has well and truly stolen the spotlight in many respects. However, the only people who say such things are those who do not know the relationship the three siblings share. Kunal is very much the financial brains behind all of @Dahlia's work and her role as head of the @Tree-Wrights. It is in this area that he truly shines.

“My sister is immensely talented as a Tree-Wright. She, however, spends money like it's water.” - Kunal Darknoll

Appearance

A scaled @Beastkin, Kunal looks much like his father, though his eyes are far more yellow and snake-like than his were, even in his youth. He usually sports a small, neatly kept mustache and a well-groomed goatee, along with short dark hair. He has a small amount of vibrant green scales that wrap around and near his eyes; these scales also become more visible when he's flustered or upset, even changing color slightly from green to a shade of blue.

Personality

Kunal is an extremely patient man, with time enough for everyone who needs him. He has inherited much of his mother’s good nature, always preferring to see the good in people—if only they could be given a chance and the money to escape whatever situation they’ve found themselves in. He is also quite a careful individual, ensuring that seeds are counted and that every bit of money going into and out of the family business is accounted for. It is this trait that has kept the Darknoll fortune growing in the years since Dahlia arrived, as she is wont to spend far more quickly than she thinks about the cost of such things.

Background

He is the oldest of Caesar Darknoll’s three children, born into both privilege and scorn. His father was part of the @Old Families, but his mother was nothing more than a commoner. If his grandparents could have, they would have disowned the lot of them, but with no other direct heirs and several branch families being less-than-desirable alternatives, things remained as they were—though with far more scrutiny than was normal for a small child. These early years were some of Kunal's happiest, though, much like anything truly wonderful, they were not meant to last.

Loss of a Mother

When young Kunal was five, his mother announced that another child would soon join them. Kunal looked forward to his new sibling with great joy. However, during the birth, his mother gave her life so that young Ren could live. Before she passed, she had written letters to both her husband and son in case something went wrong. The only known line from the letter to Kunal reads: "Ren is my last gift to you, but the price has been very high, so treasure her as they treasured all my gifts." Thus, what could have turned to bitterness and resentment became a protective and loving nature in Kunal.

A New Gift

Some time later, as Kunal approached his 13th birthday, Caesar brought home Dahlia. She was barely eight years old but had already impressed his father with her talent and understanding. Kunal was immediately jealous of the young prodigy. After a particularly bad incident involving Ren’s favorite rocking horse and some experimental wood carving, Caesar took Kunal aside and told him to watch from a secret vantage point. Some time later, Dahlia returned with the rocking horse in perfect condition—perhaps even better than before. Urging Ren to sit on it, they all watched in utter amazement as the horse partially came to life, whinnying and rocking on its own. Ren’s laughter filled the house. Whispering into Kunal's ear, Caesar said, "And she is a gift..."—or at least, that’s what Kunal heard.

Adulthood

Many years later, as Dahlia ascended to the leadership position of the Tree-Wrights, Kunal and Ren were more than happy to step up and support their sister. They knew that those in charge would not be pleased with the situation and that Dahlia might not realize these people were trying to kill her at the first opportunity. Kunal vowed to protect the gifts he'd been given with the skills he had—even if they were only financial—knowing that money would do much to keep the hounds at bay.

Relationships

Nothing official. As heir to the Darknoll family fortune, many suitors have come calling, attempting to woo their way into his good graces, but all have been turned away. Many rumors suggest he is engaging in an illicit and taboo affair with his sister Dahlia, though he does his best to squash these rumors whenever they arise.

Allegiance

Kunal maintains the relationship between Dahlia, the Tree-Wrights, and @The Silver Council, often attending meetings in Dahlia’s stead if his sister Ren is unavailable. As such, he has managed to forge a few alliances with the following people:

    • Factory Bosses
    • The Gilded
