In fact their relationship goes all the way back to their founding and the very first installation of a Clock work heart. In this way the two companies are symbiotic one handles the mechanical and the other the biological making sure the interface between the two remains stable.
In a word the Lower Class see them as vultures preying on those fools too desperate to know better than to go under the knife for the chance at restoring an arm, leg or eye. Everyone has a story of an uncle, brother, sister or cousin going to the Clock Docs begging for help after an accident at the factory. They are always too happy to help but once on the slab not everyone gets back up again and even if you do many aren't quite as they should be.
Some within this class are very lucky never having need of the services of the Clock Docs though those that do find themselves in need often times can scrape the money together to afford their services without the risk of experimentation or in the case of the Green Cloak have the city provide for their needs in this department.
If ever a member of the Upper class require their services you can bet that it will be of a far higher level than anything those beneath them can manage to afford. The best that the Docs can offer and then some with an absolute guarantee on not only survival but a return to what has been lost and perhaps beyond. There are some circles within the Upper crust that view this kind of body modification as en vogue and entire parties are dedicated to the surgeries and resultant improvements.
For the desperate or the brave often times a younger chirurgeon is the one to perform this operation either they are attempting to learn or pass some kind of esoteric test the Clock Docs put in place when you are attempting to join their ranks, either way danger here is high though sometimes you can end up with far more than you bargained for in a way that might be considered positive.
A simple replacement of a limb, appendage or even eye. You have the money to do this there is little risk of anything going wrong, it will be as good as what you lost if a bit on the colder side. It should be noted you do need to feed it steam to keep things going, though a vial of concentrated steam will keep you going for a few days.

It's possible to change ones normal arm for something that has a hidden blade or perhaps a small steam cannon, it's even possible to greatly increase your strength or running speed. A lot of the technology in this space is very cutting edge and has a greater than 0 chance of exploding while attached to you but that's the cost of being an early adopter.

Their specific speciality lies in the application of clock work prosthetics for those that can afford them. Their prices are negotiable and periods of servitude can be exchanged for services rendered of course, though expect to be working for them for a long time. They are also a great love of experimentation and will take great risks for the advancement of their craft to the point where one might get a procedure for free though not without risk involved of course.Public Perception

History:
The origins of the Clock Docs can be traced back to the origins of The Gilded when the very first Clockwork Heart was created and installed into the Clara Maxie Sterling after this though the original chirurgeon who accomplished this truly wondrous feat was to be dismissed and perhaps never heard of again. But the two founders called them back so impressed with their work that they would trust no other with the delicate surgery on their own son.Symbiosis
As the Gilded was founded so too were the Clock Docs as both Clara and Ava Isolde Sterling began replacing more parts of themselves it became apparent that this one doctor would need to take apprentices and expand their operation. As the Gilded grew so did the Clock Docs. However Clara and Ava knew that anyone who they needed to be as vulnerable as they were with these doctors people knowing who they were was a massive liability so they suggested that the Clock Docs operate in secret masking themselves and never operating out of locations that were easily traceable to them. They agreed as long as they had the two womens guarantee that they would never seek out any competition for their services and that they be allowed to use what they learned and the technology provided by the Gilded on people who were not part of the company as a way of making extra profit. Neither Ava or Clara objected as long as they were being provided compensation that could be spent on further research. An agreement was reached and from that moment on the only people who knew who and where the Clock Docs came from were Ava and Clara and most suspect that secret will die with them.Services Offered:

Attire / Common Garb / Quirks:
In general the Clocks Docs prefer to wear a white lab coat buttoned up all the way to just under the chin with black gloves, In addition they also when meeting clients wear a full face mask that obscures their features completely this is for two reasons. Hygiene as they were one of the first to discover that disease and infection spread rapidly when you are cutting someone open and secondly to conceal their identities from anyone even their clients. This second point is what keeps the Clock Docs in business as it makes it much harder to blackmail or bribe the people responsible for taking care of their patients. It would be exceddinlgy bad if someone were to learn for example if the head of the The Iron Hands was about to have an operation and be completely vulnerable.
Structure and Hierarchy:
Due to their nature of secrecy the clock docs have a structure that would best be described as confusing for outsiders. Those inside the company might know how these things work but there is almost no hope for anyone outside it to determine who if anyone is in charge and honestly they like it that way. Suffice to say each of them are their own person though and seemingly answer to no one though there does seem to be new members joining all the time what the pipeline or requirements are no one is sure but they are the best chirurgeons in the city so they clearly know what they are doing.Territory:
They operate exclusively out of the First Ring being able to afford a number of offices within the vaunted locations.
