The Brotherhood of the Sun

Beliefs and Goals: The Brotherhood of the Sun worships the sun as the ultimate power over life and death, believing that the unnatural winter is a blockage of the sun’s life-giving force by a malevolent shadow entity. Their goal is to banish this entity and restore the sun's full power, thereby ending the perpetual winter.
Rituals and Practices: This cult engages in daily sun rites where members align in formations symbolizing the sun's rays at dawn, praying and offering sacrifices to strengthen the sun's power. They use mirrors and reflective surfaces to direct sunlight into darkened areas, symbolizing their fight against the shadows that they believe hold the sun captive. During solar eclipses, which they view as significant celestial events, they perform powerful rituals to weaken the shadow entity.
Structure: The Brotherhood is organized into cells called Solar Assemblies, each led by a Solar Priest. These cells operate semi-independently but gather together for major rituals. The High Illuminator, believed to be chosen by solar omens, leads the entire Brotherhood, providing strategic direction and interpreting the will of the sun.
Recruitment and Influence: Both cults actively recruit from among the common folk, particularly targeting those most affected by the harsh winters—farmers whose crops fail, families suffering from the cold, and anyone desperate for change. Their promises of ending the winter through divine intervention attract many who have lost hope in conventional solutions. While their methods and beliefs differ significantly, their shared focus on ending the winter gives them a dangerous allure, potentially destabilizing the region further if their radical solutions gain enough support.
